Groupon for JCPenney Portrait Studio

Groupon has a deal right now for a portrait package through JCPenney for $40 that includes six single image portrait sheets (can be six different poses from 1-10x13, 1-8x10, 2-5x7, 4-3 1/2x5 or 8 wallets), one 10x10 and a CD, plus no sitting fee.

Has anyone done pictures at JCPenney before? Any good or bad experiences? I have a very shy 2 1/2 year old who I'm not sure will sit and smile for a stranger and it worries me a little that a place that this will try to rush us making it even harder to get her to look at the camera without clinging to me and crying Big Smile

Re: Groupon for JCPenney Portrait Studio

  • I don't know if JC Penny's in Valley West has a stuido, or where the closest one would be? I could be wrong.

I had Cristi from Lemon Tree Take Ella's pictures yesterday! She was GREAT! And Ella was comfortable around her, I recommend Cristi! You can see her work on Facebook, if you search for Lemon Tree Photography.

  • We use the portrait studio Target, which is the same company (Lifetouch) and have had nothing but good experiences. Of course, the staff is completely different at both places, but I would hope the service levels are consistent. They don't offer a lot of backgrounds to choose from, and the timeslots at Target are only 10 minutes each, but that's a really good deal. I'm tempted to switch.
  • We used JCPenney portraits for some of B's pictures when he was a baby.  I was always very happy with our experience there. I will say we always tried to do a time during the week as it was less busy/chaotic.  If you go on a weekend they will try to rush you through as they schedule as many appointments as possible.  We had one gal that we really liked and so the couple times we went we made sure to request her.   The backgrounds are the same as any other studio so there is not much variety but it was a cheap way to have some great pictures as memories of how fast they grow.

Now that B is older we use AG Design Photography, as suggested by B-P and we really like her.  She does outdoor locations and then gives you a CD with all of the rights to the photos.  We just did some last week with her at Grays Lake.  I love that she just follows the kids lead to make them most comfortable.  If you want her contact info I would be happy to pass it on!
