Hospital Bag help

Alright, ladies! I'm 33 weeks tomorrow and should start getting this thing put together. I'll be delivering at Mercy BTW.

What were your must-haves?

 What didn't you need?

What did you wish you'd brought but didn't?

etc.

Thanks!

Re: Hospital Bag help

  • Must haves: My Boppy and slippers or flip flops

Didn't need: Blow dryer.  The first time around I brought a hair dryer and flat iron, but just ended up pulling my hair back in a pony tail instead.  I also didn't bother with my own pillow because when I want to sleep I'll sleep wherever whenever so the pillow didn't matter to me.

The first time around I stayed in the hospital gown the entire time and had no problem with that.  This time around I thought it might be more comfortably for Sophia if I was in semi-normal clothes so I brought yoga pants and nursing tanks with a zip up hoodie to layer over them.  Honestly, it was so much more comfy and I think in large part it helped me feel back to normal quicker.  I also brought mascara and lip gloss both times so I had just a little something to brighten up my face during pictures.

  • First, I was looking at some beautiful maternity pictures on facebook today and now that I see your siggy I realize they were yours! Carly takes pictures of my bro and sil's twins! Beautiful pictures!! Second, my must haves were my own clothes (black yoga pants, nursing tanks, and cute slippers), my own towel, my own tp (the sprayer thing scared me :/) and hard candy/gum! I also packed my blow dryer, straightenerr, and very minimal make-up...needed to look somewhat normal for all of the pictures!

  • With Reese, I didn't have a bag packed (preterm labor). I had dh bring me a toothbrush, chap stick and a hair tie ;) With Grier, I packed black pants, nursing tanks, flip flops, my own pillow (with a non-white pillow case), chap stick, hard candy (for labor), phone, camera, laptop and chargers for all. I thought about my own towels but things are kind of, umm, messy, and I didn't want to ruin mine! For baby, I had a cloth diaper, outfit and blanket.

  • Ditto what Erin said.

Old undies, if you don't like the mesh ones they give you.

makeup- I did mine, if you wear glasses/contacts, don't forget solution or a cases for each.

I used the towels there, they were OK, not the softest things in the world but they worked. Also, if you plan to BF- bring your pump so they can help you use it.

OH! Your lap top. During the day it can get kind of boring when baby is sleeping.

IF your water breaks at home, make sure you bring a towel to sit on in the car, because it doesn't just break, it keeps on leaking. And if it does break at home, have someone, if H is staying with you, take those clothes home to wash.

A warm blanket for H, as the room is ALWAYS cold :)

ALSO! WAIT! You're 33wks! WHOLLY COW!

  • I want to add that I brought a heating pad the second time around, and really wish I would have had it the first time.  If you plan to BF, I thought the most painful part of my time in the hospital were those first nursing sessions and the uterine cramping that they caused.  I just brought one of those rice-filled heat packs that you microwave, and had DH heat it up before every nursing session.  Then I just placed it on my lower stomach while I nursed the baby.  For me, it helped so much more than the pain meds.
