Today school starts... which means I'm even more self conscious that people think I'm in college... probably a freshman... or maybe a visiting HS student
Yes, I have a backpack, which probably doesn't help, but it's the most comfortable thing for carrying my laptop and lunch darnit! If I had a dollar for every time someone said "you'll appreciate it when you're older" we could pay of H's school debt, lol. But seriously, I hate that people must look at my tiny, backpack carrying self and think "aww little student person".
And even when I'm more made up (heels, full make-up etc) than younger sister, people still think she's the older one. It's a lost cause.
Re: petty vent (so you're not alone, husky)
I feel ya. I get the "you'll appreciate it when you're older" a ton. It gets old.
Though I will appreciate it. When I'm 50 I'm gonna look good.
my currently-reading shelf:
what are you? grad student? or u just work there?
people tell me i look younger sometimes and older others.. it doesn't bug me. but i hope i have your problem when i'm old!
*sigh*
i'll appreciate it one day, too.....but until then, i'm an adult!

jumped ship to the new and improved nest. back to TB for baby boards.
grad student, but I was out of college for two years before I went back (and have been in for 2 years), so I'm definitely older than college students - I sometimes just feel really self-conscious for some reason, like, I want people to think "cool grad student" not "cute little HS student".

We could make you a patch for your backpack that says "Cool Grad Student"
From one former grad student to another - you'll keep getting the comments until you've graduated and never step foot on a campus again.
oh pretty please?! that would be awesome, lol

That and that.
I still get asked if I'm the summer intern. It's been 7 years since I graduated college. I totally feel your pain.
Same here. People used to ask me when I'm going to graduate from HS. It hasn't happened in a year or so, since I've stayed with this team at work, but it's half amusing, half frustrating when it does/did happen.
ftr: I graduated from hs in 1997.
For what it's worth, people always used to think I looked younger than I was and it was frustrating. (No, my ID is NOT fake! Don't let me into your stupid club then but I need my ID to drive home, Mr. Bouncer Person!!) But now? Now I'm 31 and apparently the past 5-6 years have been hard on me because I rarely get carded anywhere anymore, and people are pretty darn close to accurate when guessing my age.
So, from the other side of the fence...
But yeah, I can see it getting tiresome, not feeling like people look at you like an adult. I'll see about that patch
I would wear it with pride
