I split the silverware in half. Half is in the buffet in the dining room, half is in the kitchen (not exactly near the dishwasher). That way I have it handy in both rooms.

I only have two cabinets near the dishwasher- the one directly over it has all of our dishes/bowls. The one over the sink (sink is right next to dishwasher) holds the glassware. The only drawer large enough for a silverware organizer is on the other side of the L shaped cabinets (in between the stove and the fridge). Our kitchen is fairy small though, so it is just a few steps away from the dishwasher. This place is actually kinda handy since we dish our food up at the stove, so we fill our plates then grab silverware.

I have a apartment galley style kitchen and its very small. I can stand diagonal between the dishwasher and the silverware drawer with no problem. If I had a drawer right next to the dishwasher, I would totally use it, but that's not the case.

Thanks everyone! We're going from a tiny kitchen to a larger one, so I was trying to figure out how I wanted it all to be layed out. Smile

I voted for near the dishwasher, even though it's not that close, but it's closer than the dining room.

Our silverware drawer is a few steps away from the dishwasher on the other side of the sinks, which is the closest drawer.

I don't keep it in the dining room because we don't have a buffet table or anything where I would store it. Someday, when we're in a better position and a better/bigger house I'm hoping that'll happen.

SS - I don't have a dishwasher unless you count my husband. We keep it in the only drawer that is a good size for silverware (I'd like more storage in my next kitchen!) which happens to be by the sink.

I voted dishwasher, but I don't actually have one....lol. We are renting a house that was made in the late 70s and is way too small to put a dishwasher in...our landlord would never allow it either. Anyways, I have a drawer directly underneth the counter we use for our dish strainer that I store the silverware in.
