today's OB appt

First of all, thank you so much for all your well wishes in the bump update thread.  It really means a lot.

I had a 9am appointment but didn't get in untl 9:30 (I was told to expect an hour wait at each appointment).  My doctor is SO nice.  We did the initial screening questions and we discussed my history of long cycles.  I did tell him that I was using OPKs and it looked like I O'd on CD17 which was pretty early for me.  Since we are going to do the IPS (NT scan) and you need to do that in a certain time frame, he wanted to do a quick ultrasound to see exactly where I was measuring.

My inital reaction was "shut the front door!"  I didn't bring DH and everyone I had talked to said the OBs around here didn't have u/s in the office.

So, he starts looking and I can't tell anything on the screen and was pretty worried until he said 'there's your baby'.  Baby is measuring 420mm so right on track for around 11 weeks and he got the doppler out and we listened to the heartbeat which was about 160.  It was so amazing but I was worried that DH will be upset that he didn't get to see it, but I wasn't expecting an ultrasound.  He'll be there for the IPS ultrasound.

raynes - for my IPS, I'm at the mercy of the office!  They do them at the hospital and the office will call me with my appointment.  I wish I could choose so that I could book it when I have a day off but otherwise DH and I will both have to call in sick that day.

Depending on when the IPS is, we might tell the parents Thanksgiving weekend (I would be 12.5 weeks) but definitely still waiting to tell friends and work.

Sorry that it got so long!

ETA - to fix 42mm to 420mm.  OB did say 42mm but baby would obviously be 420mm=4.2cm to be about 1.5 inches.  Metric conversion fail on OB's part

  • Oh beth, I'm so excited for you!  (and freaking jealous of your u/s!!!)

That's interesting about how they handle the IPS.  It's funny how practices are different, eh?  Maybe there are just more places around here that do them?

From what I've heard, when you're at your point and have both seen the baby and heard the HB, your chance of a m/c drops below 1%.

  • Ok, so I obviously didn't go back and read the bump thread the day it was posted. So I will say it here. Congratulations!!!!!  I am so happy for you!

  • That's so exciting you got to see your little one and hear the heartbeat. I hope DH isn't too upset, but there wasn't much you could do about it. There's not too much to see that early anyways. He'll love seeing the LO at the IPS for sure.

  • Thanks, ladies.  And DH seems to understand.  I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he is in town for when they book my IPS since he is going to be leaving October 18th for 3 days.
