I'm super hyped up on adrenaline right now. We had a late night at my parents for Rosh Hashana. We got home about 10:45 -- DH took out the trash (2 weeks worth since we were at the hospital for the last trash day) and I nursed DD/ bottle fed her and pumped. DH passed out as soon as his head hit the pillow and I lay down myself (Simon was hogging the bed and wouldn't move so I curled up in a ball).
Anyway, I heard some weird noises outside and then I realized I didn't hear the garage door close when DH finished the trash. I debated getting up and checking and finally did. The door was open and I flipped out. The door to the garage from our basement was ajar too and if it's ajar, Dewey knows how to open it. I did a quick search of our place and couldn't find the cat... so I screamed at DH to wake up and I ran outside calling for the cat. DH finally got outside and after 10 minutes of calling him-- Dewey ran down the street.
I tried to catch him but he was spooked and we tried to corner him but he was too fast-- he ran under a car and I burst into tears... DD was in the house and ummm 7 days old and we are outside chasing the cat. We've had a rash of intruders/ robberies in our area lately (not the safest area to start) and I was thinking about how easy it would have been for someone to come into our house with the door open.
I just had a mini breakdown in the house after DH got back with the cat and now I cannot fall asleep-- my mind is racing. Ugh, anyway, I'm going to zone out and watch some tv and hope to get some sleep tonight... I'm kind of pissed at DH because he has left the door open before and I've given him the riot act. He's exhausted though so I understand but I'm freaked out by the "what ifs" at the moment! I'll get over it...
that's my story... I just needed to type that out because it's too late to call anyone and cry. If you made it this far, I'll mail you cookies!
Re: can't sleep (long)
Oh no! What a stressful thing to happen after (what I would hope had been) such an enjoyable evening! I'm glad you found Dewey, but bad kitty for making you go chase him!
Everything is ok now hun, so no need to keep worrying. Make yourself a cup of tea or hot chocolate, throw on a dvd or something and just relax for a bit. You'll be sleepy and cozy in no time.
Hugs!
ugh
I'm glad you got him though
and DD is a week old!! wow already??
oh dude. boys are so silly. K is always doing things like this - every time he mows I ask "did you close the gates?" before I let the dog out and he's always like "I don't know, I think so". As you know from being at our place, you cannot see either gate from the door where the dog goes out, so I usually have to go out and walk to either side of the house to check. 9 times out of 10 he leaves one of them wide open. Another time he closed the gates but left the side door to the garage AND the garage door open, so Stella could have escaped thru the garage.
glad you rescued Dewey and no one broke in...guess this is one benefit of an alarm system - it would tell you if a door is ajar.
Oh. me. gee. I can't imagine.
DH has left the garage door open before. Luckily we live in a safe area and nothing was taken, but we also don't usually lock the door to the garage either. So it is definitely nerving to think about the possibility of someone getting in the house.
Oh goodness, I couldn't imagine! Good thing you got up when you heard the noises and luckily everything turned out fine and Dewey is home safe.
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
Oh that's terrible! That silly Dewey (although Stryker would do the exact same thing, although he'd never come when we call him...he's never learned that).
Poor stressed out Mama!
