Cleaning the toilet plunger and toilet brush and their holders?

How does everyone do this? I pour some bleach in the toilet and let the plunger and brush sit in there overnight but their holders get so nasty.

Re: Cleaning the toilet plunger and toilet brush and their holders?

  • I run the brush holder through the dishwasher.  You could also soak them in soap in your utility sink/kitchen sink and let them air dry.
  • I dont buy good enough toilet brushes that I can't throw away and buy new when they get yucky.  Right now our toilet brushes/holders are from Ikea, and our plunger is in the linen closet upstairs.

  • I'm of the toss when yucky opinion as well but I find buying the toilet brushes that come in their own little container and putting about a half an inch of bleach in there helps keep them 'cleaner' longer.

  • OOh good idea about putting some bleach in the holder. I toss when they're gross too but I am just grossed out by them all the time when I think about the jobs they do :/

This is a good idea for combatting germs, but if you have a toddler in the house it could be dangerous.  Obviously keeping the bathroom door closed helps to keep them away from the many hazards of the bathroom, but I would be very leary of having bleach water at a LO's eye level.

  • I scrub my toilets with vinegar and baking soda, and then I spray some extra vinegar into the brush holder to disinfect it and keep mildew from growing. This works well and is child friendly, too.
  • I got the Scrubbing Bubbles toilet bowl wand. So the scrubber gets tossed after each use.
