Since we moved in our new place in south philly a few months ago, we haven't had internet or cable...but now that football season is here, we need our sports programing now (going to the sports bar is getting expensive!). DH refuses to get Comcast since a long time ago they charged him for internet service when he didn't even have computer (long story short, he ended up paying comcast for a service he never had). FIOS is not available in our area.
What do you think of direct TV? Dish Network? What are other other options for watching the Eagle at home?
Re: Non-Comcast solutions?
What about Dish Network?
I'm in S. Philly and have Fios in my area, did you call recently to check availability?
I checked my address online and it said it wasn't available? I thought I would since a few streets south of me has it and a few blocks north of me has it... I supposed I live in the neglected part os south philly.
Will I get better answer if I call them up?

I just want any service that will let me get philly sports without paying an too much (less than $75/ month)... Also HD signal would be a bonus!
And perhaps a service that doesn't require me to sign a contract since we maybe moving in less than a year.

I too live in South Philly south of Oregon Ave and we don't have Fios yet. My parents who are about 8 blocks away have Fios. I guess it depends on how things are wired and when they get around to your street.
I am sick of the prices of Comcast. DH had DirecTV in his old place and everytime it rained or was windy, it went out. You also didn't get the Phillies games
Hi!! I have the Dish and absolutely love it. With our package, we also get--is is the NFL Network?--that has Thursday night football too. FiOs is literally block by block in South Philly. We don't have it yet but I would definitely be exploring my options if it came to my block.
You can always come to my house to watch the game...except for this week, since we'll be there
I really suck at staying pregnant
Yeah, stupid freaking Comcast and their stupid freaking monopoly. We don't get a lot of Phils games but we're more of an Eagles household so we live with it.

R&T!! So good to hear from you, how much do you pay a month for your package? is the NFL network a lot? DH tells me that it's $100s of dollars a month?
I might take you up on that offer? I love watching sports with other philly fans!

fios doens't exist in my part of south philly.
we are breaking up with comcast and cable when we move. UNLESS the phillies are in the world series and i will get cable for one week and then toss it.
Hmm, I guess fios is taking their good old time getting service all throughout SP.
Comcast is a rip off, but Fios is no better. But we are stuck with comcast, no way will dh give up his sports.
LD - fox is regualar tv, but tbs is a cable channel.
Fox is a non cable channel, but TBS requires cable. The hubs is a little salty the Phils are playing on TBS for the play offs this weekend.
... hopefully we will be too busy to worry about the Phillies though
