Thankful Thursday

Since no one started this one yet, I'm going to....I need to start my day being positive!!

 I am thankful for:
- health (mine & baby's)
- DH - he is doing a really good job helping me handle my boredom/anxiety about not having anything to do and not knowing when i'll go into labor (I'm a planner, so the unknown of this is making me nuts).
- my family. We skyped last night for my mom's birthday and my brothers had me laughing so hard I was crying....and worried about breaking my own water, haha! (I know it can't actually happen, but I was laughing harder than I have in a while).
- my friends. Even though the "no baby yet?" crap is getting annoying I know that deep down they are just excited for us and to meet the LO.

Your turn!!

  • I am thankful for my job- even if it drives me crazy sometimes.  I know the spring quarter will be insanely stressful, but somehow knowing that my boss & his boss know that and are supportive & are offering to have me get people (ie friends from grad school and profs from grad school) to do some of the teaching helps tremendously!

I am thankful for my family, too.   And totally thankful my brother's MIL wanted to visit my brother's BIL who happens to live in the same burb we do... so my mom & both brothers & brother's MIL are coming to visit this weekend!  Oh- and my BIL is coming on Saturday, too!  He's just coming for the day.

And thankful for company b/c it means I now have the motivation I need to clean and declutter tonight/tomorrow before they arrive.

And I am thankful for DH who makes me laugh.

  • I'm thankful for DH who is being ultra supportive if my new weightloss goal and even made a goal for himself. It's always better when you have support!

  • I am thankful that this position is only until December. I have some rough classes, and the one will get rougher tomorrow when there is a schedule change. I'm also thankful that tomorrow is Friday and that 4 of the 6 classes will be taking tests.

Test days were my favorite days EVER when I was teaching!!

So, kinda off topic but kinda not, one of my students had a schedule change to drop from my honors class to the regular class. He also was getting switched between the two science teachers because he was disrupting the science class every day.  The VP sent out a schedule change and asked for our opinions. I told him that I didn't think the schedule change for my class would work, because this kid was being added to a class with 4 other heavy hitters, and that he would make more class disruptions being with these particular students. I was told this wouldn't be a problem and that he would put the fear of God in this student.

So.....come today, all four kids come in screaming. Then they continue to make face at each other and talk to each other through the entire test. (I have one kid in each corner and one in the middle of the room- there as far apart as physically possible).  So, since I gave him this opinion before today, and since I'm not paid enough to try to hunt these kids down for teacher detentions, and since if I did find them during the schedule detention that they would skip or swear at me then skip, I just wrote them all up as office referrals so he can deal with it. Luckily, this was the only class period that had students acting up during the testing period. Hopefully, the VP and deans will actually do something about this, but that is asking a lot since a)these kids are already skipping their dean assigned Saturday detentions (which are given for serious offenses), b)the parents of the kid who switched thinks all of us teachers are picking on their son, and c)the VP didn't respond to my email I sent him during class this morning about having issues with these kids in the first 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, a handful of these students are making me not feel as passionate about teaching. (I felt similarly when I taught 7th grade a few years ago). I am hoping that I can find some work in an elementary room as soon as possible so that I can feel passionate and enjoy working again.
