ok - so the new Facebook timeline/ticker thing - how to?
So. .. my friend commented on her friend's picture - and I clicked on it to see (because I'm a stalker like that!) but anyway, when it opened the picture it was all askew and off center and I couldn't see all of it and it doesn't scroll correctly.
I feel like every time I click on one of those links - that apprently the WANT me to click on - I don't really get a full picture of the status post or the picture and then I can't figure out how to close the pop up either.
How do I navigate it?/

I don't know but I wish there was an option to exclude yourself from it. I don't need my family/coworkers/friends seeing every single thing I like and comment on. Its fvcking creepy. And yes, I have seen the little copy-and-paste status going around that tells people to edit their subscriptions to you but IMO this is something that should be able to be controlled by YOU, not people on your friends list.
Also, when I hover over the ticker I can see all kinds of people's photos and statuses.....many of whom I assume have them set to friends only. so doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
I'm not really complaining (besides right now, lol) about it b/c of course FB is free and I do not have to use it, I just can't figure out what the thinking is behind the stupid news ticker.
you can fiddle with these settings if you go an edit your privacy settings.
I think you actually do control it. A friend of mine posted this whole article on how to handle the new changes- I will find the link for you.
The whole copy-and-paste status update isn't really the way to go about it from what I read.

from my friend's status "Wondering why you keep seeing random people on that ticker to the right? If you don't want your actions broadcast to everyone via the ticker/News Feed please set your privacy to "Friends" and ask your friends to do the same. Pass it on. Basically if you are seeing your friends' comments, etc. on random people's pages, it's because the random people have not tightened up their settings.
It can't be that your privacy is controlled by your friends. That doesn't make sense. And that status people are posting about "please unsubscribe to me"...If I unsubscribe to someone, it's like hiding them. I just tried unsubscribed someone to test and it told me that now I won't see any of their status updates. I don't think that's what people are going for. I'm fine with my friends seeing my updates, I just don't want their friends seeing them. *I think* that because I have my settings set up so that my status updates are viewable by "friends only" that only my friends can see them, but I don't know how to test this.
Currently in my "ticker" I see something like...[my friend] commented on [her friend]'s status: "blah blah blah". If her friend has his settings so that his sh!t is viewable by friends of friends, then that's why I see it, but if he had it set to friends only, I wouldn't. Does this make any effing sense???

Sarah, we are not friends on FB but I went through Dani's profile to find you and your entire wall, all your info, and photos are viewable to me. However, I cannot see your status updates. You might want to change your settings if you don't want people seeing all that info.
This is exactly how it works. There are just a lot of people out there who had their settings (for certain elements) set to friends-of-friends or even public, so therefore a lot of people's activity on these walls of these FB walls was suddenly more visible.
I have noticed that my ticker has gotten significantly cleaned up since the big change- probably a result of people changing their security settings.
Thank you for telling me this!! I guess I need to change a few more settings.

so since I am friends with 90% of you guys on FB, am I showing up in your news ticker every time I comment or like something?? Anyone notice?
I have always kept my privacy settings to friends only, for everything.
Let me know when you change your settings and I'll let you know what I can see. Geez, that sounds so stalker-like!
yes - I can see you commenting on your friends pics and then I can see THEIR pic that you commented on.

Haha, thank you! I think I was able to hide my pictures, but I can't figure out how to hide my Wall in general, or my Info. I Googled and it kind of says it can't be done. If that's true, I'm going to have to delete my info. You used to be able to have it completely private.

You know, I think Lene told me this the other day. How annoying. I've gone through all my settings over and over and don't know what else to change. I mean, I treat anything I put on FB as pretty much public info anyway, so its not a huge deal. I am just annoyed I can't figure it out.
This is because Lene's friend's settings are set to either "friends-of-friends" or public. It has nothing to do w/ Lene's settings.
If you comment on someone's status, wall, picture, etc. and their settings are FoF or public then your comments on their FB property will be visible to their settings.
A way to protect yourself "against" friends who have FoF or public settings is to make it so that if you are ever tagged in a post or picture that you have to review and approve that tag.
This is a good idea. I had not tried this before. I keep checking my settings to make sure it's friends only but like others said I know I have a lot of friends who have it set to friends of friends.
This is so frustrating to me... I keep things locked down to "friends only" for a reason, and it's so random stuff isn't floating around for students' parents or parishioners to see. I don't have anything to hide, but I don't need them to be privy to EVERY aspect of my life, either.
Anyone want to snoop on mine and see if my settings are tight enough? I'm friends w/ quite a few nesties (just from this thread, I'm friends w/ at least Kathryn and Stacey), so I could probably be found pretty easily through someone else's profile.

When I click on your wall, I can see a question you answered and two things you wrote on Jen's and Nikki's walls. None of your photos or other info though.
Your profile, pics, everything is all locked up. You are good and safe!
Yours is locked down well. I can only see on your wall comments you made on someone else's status IF that person is also my friend (Nikki, Jen, etc).
