Sperm Donor: 74 Kids and More on Style Network?
Anyone watch it? I didn't get a chance, but I want to know if it is worth catching the replay.
Re: Sperm Donor: 74 Kids and More on Style Network?
I recorded it and will watch it sometime today and provide feedback.
I am a lesbian and DS was conceived with a KD. We are talking about TTC #2 and using a frozen donor, so I am curious. The idea of my kid having 70+ half-siblings blows my mind. I accepted the fact our KD may someday have kids, and I am okay with DS having a few half-siblings, but 20/30/40/50+ makes me feel really awkward.

I just finished watching it and I would recommend it if you are the slightest bit intrigued. The donor, Ben, discusses why he donated, why he wanted to be known to the families, etc. It also shows the struggles that Ben's fiance, Lauren, goes through as she learns how many kids Ben has. She expresses that she doesn't want to share him and challenges him to determine boundaries for his relationships with his "children" and their families.
It was interesting. There was a second side story about two donor sisters meeting who had a separate donor. Their story was sweet and touching and showed a neat dynamic, too.

My parents conceived me via a sperm donor. My dad was infertile after treatments he had when he had cancer, so that was the route they decided to go. Anyway, sometimes it's a strange concept for me to think about all the possible half siblings, if you even want to call them that, running around out there. But for the most part I don't ever really let that thought cross my mind.
I think it's definitely worth watching. I was intrigued and it left me a ton of ethical questions after watching.
I don't know if I would be able to marry someone like Ben. That is, someone who is actually meeting their children born via donation...::shoulder shrug::

The woman he is marrying shouldn't be marrying him. She seems very uncomfortable with the whole thing. She obviously doesn't want him meeting the kids. I can see this being problems for them in the future.
Thanks for the responses. I am going to have to catch it sometime.
It is such a complex issue, I am not sure people grasp all of the situations that can come from donations.
