My days in the monster truck are OVER! As of today I am the proud owner of a Honda Pilot. We bought a used 2009, its certified and beautiful!
We started our search roughly 3 weeks ago, after a trip to Long Island with 5 people in the truck, doable but it sucked. Also with the truck I have no trunk and need one for my stroller, 2 car seats make it impossible to go inside. I wanted a 3rd row because with 2 kids now I need more space so my search began.
First I went to Subaru, I wanted one sooo bad. The dealer told us to leave, their 3rd row isn't functional, he saved us time. We looked at Highlander, but it was too much. Then I went to KIA their 3rd row sucked in the Sorrento. So did Dodge Journey even though it is adorable. Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, a Chrysler truck. Ford Expedition was too much and after dealing with my 'Exploder' I wanted to stay way and a ton more. Basically I have test driven 30+ cars and looked at more.
A big thing I noticed, and for those looking to keep and eye out for also, is in 3rd rows the car seat hookups, most smaller 3rd rows- sorrento, journey, etc ARE NOT for 3 car seats back there, meaning with 2 kids you would have to take out a car seat for person to get in and then re-hook up each time. Which would be a major pain.
Re: I got a "Mom" Car
It is similar to the Explorer. MUCH smaller then my Ram 1500. I had an Subaru STI before my trucks. (which were DH's picks not mine) I love small cars but safety wise have felt better in bigger cars. It feels normal for me, if you do go for a bigger car I would say go Pilot, Explorer, etc because of size room for your DH compared to some of the other cars I mentioned. My concern was the 3rd row being useful, most have 3rd rows to say they do.
Everyone I know who has a Pilot says they love it and won't change, our friends have a lease up in November and going from 2009 to a 2012 one, and others have an 08 which still is like new. Also while looks at all different ones my BIL was on the Honda side from the beginning when I was still unsure.
Congrats!
finding the perfect 3rd row is hard.
I love our Jeep Commander, but the 3rd row would require unhooking the carseat -- however, if we have the 3rd row up we actually have ZERO truck space so we usually keep that row down flat to keep all our stuff in...
thank you!
and best of luck with it!
i have quarters burning a hole in my wallet.
yay to new car! enjoy it.
Thanks girls!!!
Also, to but in...I went from a Honda Accord to the Pilot. I think all Hondas drive the same (I have also driven my bro's Odyssey) and that is, like a car. Our other car is a Subaru Legacy and I do notice a difference and did when we still had the accord but you will love it.
