S/O Financial Poll

Some of you mentioned getting spending cash or an allowance.  How much do you get weekly/monthly?

Re: S/O Financial Poll

  • We each get $200 a month.
  • I think around 10% of our salary gets put into our side accounts each paycheck (5% each).
  • LOL. My allowance is everything. After bills are paid, I pretty much get all the leftovers. ;)

  • We intended to do the "separate spending money" accounts and had them setup at our bank.  We never could figure out how much should go in them so we kept putting it off.  When we switched banks we realized there had been no fights/issues with money so we didn't reopen the separate accounts.

  • We each get $120 per month. It is mostly used for eating out (not as a couple), little purchases like clothes I don't really need or Starbucks, etc. It is easier to budget the flat $120 than all of those little expenditures. (We used to get $200, but cut back to pay for the housekeeper - TOTALLY worth it!) ;)

Same here.  We both take out $120 cash at the beginning of the month & then no questions asked.

  • Since were on a spending freeze, we just split my cash tips. Usually ends up being $50 pp each month. Mine usually gets spent at starbucks.

this.  I just lowered it because DC is killing us!

  • We have a set target in the budget to spend on specific line items, but it is not divided between us, it is joint.

DH knows I am not a crazy spender and I know he isn't either.  It works for us.

This.  I'm a crazy spender, but now that I stay at home, I've actually cut the credit card expense in HALF this cycle!  I think I was just shopping and buying before because I was bored at work.

  • We don't have a set budget for personal spending.  Some months it's $0 and others it's more.  However, we don't get paid like most people.  We get about 1/2 of our income on a regular basis and the remainder is variable (some months I don't have any closing, some months I have as many as 5), and in one big bonus chunk.  When DH gets his big bonus we each get a nice chunk of "flash cash" and can use that how we each want.  If we blow it, that's it until a month we have a little extra.

LOL, me, too. I try to be better about it, though. We're supposed to stick to $1000/month each.
