up all night - have we talked about this?

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't find it too funny at all and Maya Rudolph is a little annoying. LOL

Re: up all night - have we talked about this?

  • It's been discussed a bit. But i actually think it's kind of starting to grow on me. Not my favorite, but at least watchable now.

But can we discuss how Maya Rudolph is visibly pregnant?? I get that it's not in their story line, but don't tape her in the tight dresses and such! Or just tape her from the midsection up! I just don't get how they don't see that i'm seeing a visibly pregnant woman who is in a tight dress and pretending she's not pregnant. However, she looks great- but that's not the point. Haha

  • Yea, I think I'm going to take it out of my DVR. It's just not funny.

Eh, most attempts to hide a pregnancy are usually so obvious anyhow, that I almost give them credit for just moving forward and not worrying about it at all!

  • This episode seemed a little uneven for me. I really want to like the show. I like the premise, but I think they are still trying to find their footing. There were definintely funny parts, but not laugh out loud/rolling on the ground funny. I'll give it 3 or 4 more episodes before I officially give up on it.

  • I couldn't even get through an episode of it.
  • I thought it was pretty bad.  I LOVE Will Arnet, I really wanted this to work.
I saw a Spanish guy doing the Bartman.
  • I noticed the pregnancy as well.

I think I'll give it another shot and see what happens. I just thought the show was going to be about how they struggle with a newborn and you hardly see the baby! LOL Oh well.

  • I gave it one more chance last night and we had to change it after 10 min. It's horrible.

  • It's just really bad. Three episodes in should be enough time to lure the audience in. I haven't been lured.

  • I laughed-ish a few times.  I like the 3 leads so I'm holding on for a while.
  • I was really disappointed by this show. It's a subject a lot of people can relate to, but it's boring, the jokes aren't funny and they don't focus on the baby enough.

  • We just took it off our DVR last night.  Missed the first episode, but the second episode wasn't great.  The characters were too annoying/neurotic rather than endearing.

  • I didn't know Maya was pregnant! I was wondering what was up and thought I was just thinking mean thoughts about her gaining weight... Embarrassed

I am trying to hang in there with this show because I relate to the topics (I remember wearing nothing but maternity jeans and yoga pants after I had my babies!) but it's not actually FUNNY. And Maya is falling way below my expectations.

I remember the one part where I kinda laughed and that was when Christina said "I think the help is stealing the silver." Odd but I dug her accent and really thought she was about to say something serious. Tongue Tied

We'll see what happens with this show!

  • I dunno, my friends and I all think it's hilarious.  I don't really like any of the main actors, so I was surprised, but I think it works.  Maya Rudolph's character bugs me but I still like it overall - and the youtube music video was awesome IMO.  This is the first time I noticed that Maya Rudolph is pregnant; I actually thought it was going to be part of the storyline because I didn't realize she's actually pregnant IRL.  I am a bit surprised that there's been so little focus on the baby, but they do still deal with a lot of issues that new parents face.

  • I generally like the actors, but this show is just awful.

  • I know it is super little, but I tend to obsess over things like this.  I just can't get past that Applegate's character is named Regan.  If we are to believe that her character is in her mid thirties- this would mean that her parents named her this right after the Exorcist came out.  I know it is a popular name now, but the name really took a nosedive once the movie came out.   I feel like this is bad writing/research.

I also feel like it is weird that they are experiencing so many "newborn" problems when the baby is no longer a new born.  I think they should have made Amy be just a few weeks old for a lot of their parenting jokes to work.

  • I had high hopes for this show, but it has fallen way below expectations. I just don't see how it's going to get funnier. The characters are one-dimensional and it seems like everyone is just trying too hard. Forced chemistry. Not to mention the whole angle about having a baby is now second to Maya's character and her neuroses.

I will say I thought the same thing when Parks and Recreation first started. I was excited about it, and the first 3-4 episodes were really awkward and fell flat. By the second season, it was hilarious! My husband and I always wonder if they hired new writers or something, because it's turned into one of THE funniest shows on TV, IMO. Maybe Up All Night will do the same...

Maybe the appeal is for the women in their 30s who like the name Regan and are using it for their kids today?

  • I didn't like the first episode, but found the second one quite funny.

  • It's moderately funny. I'm trying really hard to like this show. I love the actors, especially Maya. I agree about not focusing on the baby, I feel like this was supposed to be about new parents and shes like 6 months old. I know it's hard to work with/keep newborns age appropriate looking, but I was looking forward to an earlier time frame.

Also, I loved that Jorma from The Lonley Island played Ava's Ex, they crack me up.

  • Saw the first episode - didn't love, didn't hate.  Missed the second.  Last nights episode was better than the first IMO, but I still don't know if I'll like it overall.  I think I'm going to give it one more week to see what happens.

I know 3 women in their mid 30's named Regan.

  • I really want to like this show.  I love Christina Applegate.

So far I'm not feeling it.  I just don't find it funny, and some parts are too cringe worthy.

I actually fast forwarded part of the second episode.  The whole we-called-the-police-but-we're-going-to-pretend-we-didn't was awful, but the pretending to be drunk was worse.

  • I feel like I'm a tough crowd when it comes to humor shows, but I'm decently liking this one.

But I'm almost exactly in the same place as Christina Applegate's character.  My DS is almost 4 months old and I've been back to work for a week.    Like when she said underneath her nice outfit was a girdle and two pairs of spanx.   I laughed at that, because it's true!   And just wanting to change into a nursing tank top and sweats when I get home, or deciding it's OK to drop food on an outfit because it's got some sort of baby stain on it....all true.    I thought it was funny when she dressed up super fancy.    I also thought the youtube video w/ Maya and her ex was funny, as was the fight that went outside and he ripped off his shirt (like Chris Brown's stunt at Good Morning America when he got angry).

The show I really think is painful is 2 Broke Girls.   How did such a contrived show get so much pre-season buzz?

  • Thought I would hate it and it would be one of those "cliche parent jokes" shows. Like a cliquey "parent" show. But I loved it. Regan is funny, and she's not all "mom". I loved the first episode. I laughed out loud several times.
