Poll: Did you get the pertussis vaccine?

So the academy of pediatrics recommends grandparents get the pertussis vaccine too.   Personally, I recommend every one gets a booster.  So random poll...

ETA: "what booster?"  aka, I didn't get one

Re: Poll: Did you get the pertussis vaccine?

  • My gp didn't give me any option but to get the TDAP at my last appointment. I was due for a tetanus update anyway, and that is the only one they offered.

  • I have kids and I have not gotten it.  I don't have a GP.  I am sure DH got it b/c of work.

ETA: So I was curious and just asked DH.  He does not get it for work but will get it from his GP as he's due for his Tetanus booster now anyway and I guess that is the "T" in Tdap.  *shrug* But in case that helps anyone.  I sitll don't have it and still have no doctor, lol.

  • We will get it before the baby arrives, but neither of us have had one.

  • DH's is current, but I need mine. I don't know if it's too late for me to get it now or what, but at my last OB appointment she said I'll get it once the baby is born. That was a new MD for me in the practice, so I'll ask my regular MD next week. I have no clue about my parents, however I think both of them might be required to have them due to their jobs.
  • I got it in the hospital after the baby was born along with a flu shot.  Good reminder though - DH needs to get one.

  • DH needed a tetanus shot a few years ago after getting hurt at work, so he got it then. I got mine last year when I realized I was due.

I just brought up to DH yesterday that we should ask our parents to get updated as well.

My parents will have no issue with it. DH's on the other hand...they threw fits when we asked them to get flu shots since we'll have a newborn at the beginning of flu season.

MIL (now living in town) says she will get one (flu shot). FIL says he won't because he's never had the flu before. Despite us telling him that doesn't matter and we'll have a newborn, he seems adament about not getting a shot. DH told him that if he visits, then he will not be seeing his grandchildren. If he's that stubborn about a flu shot, I'm sure hell will break loose about the tDap. MIL will probably biitch too. Oh well. My kid, my rules and I'll do what I can to protect my girls.

  • Check with your department of health. Mine was free because I have a child. They said it's pretty common across the country to be able to get them for free because of the recent outbreaks.

  • I know I'm overdue, but have yet to get it done.  Potentially silly question, but is it okay to get while pregnant?
  • I got it after Abbie was born, while I was still in the hospital.  DH talked about getting it, but he never did.

  • I had to read the article and read the responses to have any idea about this. I know they want to give me something I'm due for after delivery, but I have no memory of what that is/was. I got a flu shot for the first time in my life this week, so I'm not good about keeping up with these things. H only gets the shots the military makes him, so if the military makes you do it, he is up to date. If not, eh. My father probably is current since he's immune compromised and gets all sorts of things to help that. My mother hasn't been to a doctor in years, so I'm sure she's not up to date on things. MIL/FIL and my step-mother: I have no idea, and I won't be checking with them before hand. I don't even care if they have the flu shot. The only reason I got it is to help the baby since Alex is a part of the petri dish that is daycare. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had that either.
