s/o scary shows -- Walking Dead question

Okay so I watched 4 or 5 episodes of the first season of the walking dead on Saturday. I know some of you guys watched it. I plan on watching the rest of the season, so try not to give spoilers if possible!

Here's my question... in the beginning of the first episode, they show the main cop dude looking for gas and he shoots the little girl zombie... then it shows what is obviously BEFORE he gets injured and before the coma etc...  So when did/does the zombie girl fit in? Did I miss something where it said "five years earlier" or something?? I'm thinking maybe I did.

Re: s/o scary shows -- Walking Dead question

  • If I remember correctly, they never go into an exact timeline but I think I assumed it was about a 6 month deal or so.  His kid looks the same.
  • I don't think they spell it out for you, but I've read online it was just a few weeks based on the wilted flowers on the nightstand when he wakes up.
  • I just consulted DH and he said the story starts with Rick (cop dude) getting hit by the car. The scene with him shooting the zombie girl in the gas station is badically a flash forward and the show may or may not go back to visit that time. That scene isn't based on the book and it pretty much is just setting tone for the show.

  • Gotcha. Thanks guys! I'm glad I found this show now. I like a good creep-out before Halloween. :)

  • It's a great show. Eventually I'll finish reading the books but since the show is straying away from the original story I'm going to wait awhile.
