Christmas Shopping?

Has anyone else started?  Any brilliant (but cheap) ideas?  We're trying to budget better, so we're buying gifts now.  Anyone else shopping?

  • I've started. I'm planning to finish up on October 24th.

Christmas might be a little crazy this year, so I wanted to get it done with.

  • I haven't actually started shopping but I have been 'planning'.  I am starting to bookmark and pin ideas for Weston. I also have been taking pictures of the little guy I nanny for artwork on a daily basis.  I am going to use one of the websites that you can make photo books and make one so they have all of his artwork to keep in an organized book :)

  • I haven't started yet...mostly because with both of our families, we draw a name (which clearly hasn't happened yet), so I want to know who I'm buying for first.

As for inexpensive ideas, I've found some cute ones on Pinterest like:

    Homemade vanilla extract:

    Homemade candles:

A bunch of other DIY edible gifts:

  • I've come up with some ideas but haven't done a lot of shopping. We're focusing on my dad part of the family since we'll be down there for Thanksgiving. As a family gift they're getting a new set of bean bag boards and bags that Jay is making and painting. My brother and sister are also getting new football jerseys since Jay knows a guy who makes very realistic replicas for $40 a pop if you order at least 8.

Most of the kiddos in our lives are being shopped for while we're in Disney after Thanksgiving. Everyone else, I have no clue!

As a hostess gift for Jay's aunt for Christmas I'm taking a tray and decorating with old Christmas cards and I'm going to include some mugs, hot cocoa, marshmallows etc... Kind of like this but with Christmas cards:

The tray is a super cute idea!

  • I've started planning but haven't purchased anything. Last year I did it all early and by the time Xmas came, I spent double on everybody bc I just kept going. This year I'm waiting to see if I can stay on budget better. Kev and I aren't really exchanging much and we're only getting Nate a couple of things.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

This is what we did too! I feel like since we're due so close to the holidays, we're going to be giving more homemade gifts this year.

  • I have planned, and started shopping. We're donig things a bit different this year, because of our budget.

We're doing all homemade gifts. I'm excited about the money we'll be saving, as well as the process of creating!

    I'll share a few things we're doing...

For my mom, I made a sign out of wood from my grandmother's old house (that she grew up in, and is no longer standing) that reads:

In Our Home: We do second chances, we do thank yous, we do real, we do I'm sorrys, we do love, we do laughter, we do mistakes, we do respect, we do happiness, we do dreams, we do faith, we do family.

For my dad, I made a poster/sign of his favorite movie quotes to hang in his office. (He's a huge movie fan.)

For my sister(18), I crocheted a bracelet with button closure, a hat with flower, and a scarf in her favorite colors.

For my brother(12), my husband is making a bow and arrow kit. We have a family friend that makes and sells beautifully carved wooden bows, and he is teaching my hubby.

My aunt and uncle and their two kids (15, and 12) are getting a family gift. We are making a patio/outdoor scrabble board from plywood, recycled tile, and molding. It will have hinges, and be able to fold for them to take camping, etc.

My other aunt and uncle are getting a croquet set made from 2x4s, and chair spindles. Their kids are older, so we will be giving them seperate gifts.

My grandmother is getting a bird feeder made from her mother's old teacups (not special ones). I plan to make a chandalier of sorts from a garden hook...we'll see.

That's all I have planned so far. And I have most of it done already. :)

  • My brother and stepdad are the only ones who I need to figure out gifts for. Everybody else's gifts are things I could totally get last minute if I needed to, so I'll probably save buying them for my December budget.
