While looking for rental homes we stumbled upon a really nice home offering seller financing. I'd like to find out more, but since we weren't looking to buy we do not have an agent working for us. Should I contact the listing agent for the details, or should I get our own buyers agent and have them contact?
I'm aware that in most cases it would be in our best interest to have an agent representing us, but the seller will likely save a substantial amount of money if they are not paying the buyer's agent commission and perhaps they'd be even more willing to work with us given the savings (or maybe not)? I'm pretty sure the seller is the builder so I doubt the listing agent would get a full 6% if we went without an agent.
If the consensus is to get our own agent how do you feel about Redfin? Back when I was involved in real estate there was animosity towards them, but it appears they changed the way they do things to some degree so I can't see a listing agent having an issue with them anymore. By using them we could potentially get ~15k back, assuming the seller is paying 3% to the seller's agent.

Definitely get your own agent. Our agent has helped us in so many ways so far. I could never figure out all the paperwork and such on my own!
I don't know where you're at, but in my area we have two companies that do seller financing. They both buy the homes dirt cheap, fix them up and sell them. The one company is notorious for covering up bad problems with the house. Just be wary and definitely have a home inspection.
