Traverse City?

DH and I will be taking a trip up to Traverse City next month. Neither of us have really been up there, so I was looking for recommendations on things to do and places to eat. If the weather is nice, I'd like to go to the dunes and hit up a winery. Are there any other can't-miss things to do? Any restaurants worth trying?

Re: Traverse City?

  • I really like the brew pub on Front street in downtown TC.  It is usually where we go for lunch.  There are a lot of really cool towns that you could visit up in the Leelanau Peninsula too.  My favorite towns are Empire, Leeland, Glen Arbor, and Suttons Bay!  There are a lot of really nice wineries up there, if you're interested in that.  We had a lot of fun at 45 north, there is also a hard cider place called Tandem Ciders.  We always play putt putt golf at Pirates Cove in TC, that's always a good time. The dunes are great, there are lots of great hiking trails apart from the giant sleeping bear dunes hike ( although Sleeping Bear Dunes is a pretty cool experience).  I'll post some more ideas if I think of them, but TC is an awesome town, you'll have fun no matter what you do!!!!

Thanks for the ideas! We haven't played putt putt golf in forever, so we'll have to check it out!

  •  Piece Stocking Scenic Drive

Its in Glen Arbor, about an hour away from TC.

We went up there two weekends ago, and did the scenic drive for the first time, it was pretty laid back but a lot of fun, and a bunch of photo opps!

    Cheeks!

  • There are a lot of great wineries up there!  If it is just you and DH, I might suggest trying to find a tour of them (on a bus) or something so that neither of you has to worry about driving home.  :o)  Black Star Farms is great (make sure you taste the ice wine!), there is also Chateau Chantal, Chateau Grand Traverse, and a lot of others that I can't remember right now.

DH doesn't drink wine, so he will be my chauffeur! (He said he would go for the cheese, not the wine!) I checked out the website for Black Star Farms and it looks beautiful! Definately one we'll hit up!

  • My aunt lives up there so I go up there a lot. We really enjoy going to Dons. They have one in Novi, but the original is in Traverse City. Potters Bakery is a fabulous place for donuts and pastries. The Sleeping Bear Dunes is always a great place to visit. And if you like wine, all the wineries up there are fabulous! A few even let you keep the glass you drink from! Have a great trip!
