Hey!

 I was wondering if there any good pumpkin patches near Ames/Des Moines area. I don't want to pay a lot in admission fees since my daughter is only 9 months old she won't get much out of all the activities yet. I would like to take her to one and get some pictures taken with her and bring home a few pumpkins. TIA!!

    Center Grove Orchard is in Cambridge (between Ankeny and Ames) and is great.  DS is a little older, but he had a ton of fun last year and we plan on going back, this weekend, actually.   You can check out their website at centergroveorchard.com

    I think Center Grove is reduced admission on weekdays, which is a good way to save money. Also, two and under is free! What gets us is not the admission price but all the apples and pumpkins we end up buying to take home. It adds up! Have fun! :o)

    We like Pumpkinville in Mitchellville. It isn't nearly as elaborate as Center Grove but it is also free admission. They have some small animals like goats that you can go pet if you choose, lots of kids toys, a granary, a straw jump, and hayrides out to the pumpkin patch where you pick your own pumpkin. The pumpkins are really reasonably priced too. It is a cheap excursion but our family always has a blast.

    We went to this one today:

    Our son is only 9 mo. old also, so it was just fine for us.  Admissions was only $2.00.  It's just east of Ankeny a few minutes.

    I love Center Grove but it is SO expensive and our son wouldn't be able to do any of the stuff.
