Amazon Unveils $199 Kindle Fire Tablet

Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), the world?s largest online retailer, unveiled its Kindle Fire tablet computer, taking aim at Apple Inc. (AAPL)?s bestselling iPad with a device that?s smaller and less than half the price. The Kindle Fire will have a 7-inch display and sell for $199, compared with $499 for Apple?s cheapest iPad, Amazon executives said in interviews with Bloomberg Businessweek. The device, a souped-up version of the Kindle electronic-book reader, will run on Google Inc.?s Android software, the Seattle-based company said. Amazon also introduced a touch-screen version of its e-reader, to be called Kindle Touch.

Re: New Kindle Fire Tablet

  • This looks amazing and is at an affordable cost. I think Kindle Fire would surely make other tablets run for their money. $199 is definitely a game changer. But Kindle and Nook shouldn?t sell it as eBook reader. Both Nook Color & Kindle Fire are nothing less than tablet and definitely more than eBook reader.
  • Looks cool.

Also, I already have the 3rd generation kindle, but I think it's great that they came out with another, more affordable kindle ($79)
