Up All Night (possible spoilers)

Hey ladies- I know I don't post much anymore but I just had to talk to someone about it because oddly it bothers me.

Why on the show do they have a pregnant Maya Rudolph playing the drunk know nothing about babies Ava and are trying to hide the belly but not doing very good at it.  Seriously, if your trying to hide a bump stop putting her in tight clothes!

The producers need to take lessons from the King of Queens producers or something, because it's bugging me seeing this actress with a huge baby bump "drinking" wine.

Re: Up All Night (possible spoilers)

  • You know I thought she looked heavier, but I honestly didn't realize it was because she's pregnant until you just said it.

Why does that bother you?  Does it also bother you to see actors on The Wire "kill" someone?  Or to see a married-in-real-life actor "have sex with" an actress in a love story?  Does it bug you that Anthony Hopkins "ate human flesh" in Silence of the Lambs?

    She's acting.

  • Different shows take different approaches to handling an actress's pregnancy.

Some write it in, some "hide" the pregnancy and the character ends up holding grocery bags for half of a season and some simply assume that the audience is capable of extending their suspension of disbelief and ignoring that the actress is growing in size, just as they ignore the many other aspects of TV series that aren't real.

  • I saw the "bump" but had no clue she was actually pregnant.  I just assumed she had a belly :/

I said in the first post that "oddly" it bothers me.  I'm not sure why it bothers me, it just does.  Probably because it's not that she's just drinking a glass of wine at dinner she plays the drunk and the producers aren't even trying to hide the bump.  Sorry it bothers you that it bothers me.

p.s. I won't watch silence of the lambs because that whole movie bothers me.

  • I actually didn't even know she was pregnant until this post. I guess I didn't notice them "hiding" it.

  • I did think she looked awkward in what she was wearing, at first I thought she put on a lot of weight and then I realized that she was pregnant.  I can understand not trying to hide it with a grocery bag but to me she looked uncomfortable in the outfits.

  • I thought there was something odd about the way she looked, but honestly, I did not put two-and-two together. I watched this show once and it irritated the hell out of me. I didn't think it was funny (at all) and totally does not reflect my life as a new parent...

Based on the promos before the show started, I thought it would be a lot more about day-to-day parenting than it seems to be. I still think it's funny, but the funniest line from this week's episode was "I smell burnt ho!" and that's not about parenting!
