Pay question
I'm going to ask his recruiters, but I figured I could see if anyone has an answer here.
A is in Navy basic right now and I got his first paycheck today, but it's way less than half of what his paycheck should be (I know there are taxes and such as well). He's been sick and stuck to his bunk for a few days too. I was wondering if anyone knew if his paycheck would be halved since it's the first month and I didn't get anything on the 15th. Hopefully that makes sense. TIA!

I knew they were going to take money out for his uniforms and such, I just didn't know if it would come out to be about $700
I don't know the exact amount, but uniforms are pretty damn expensive, and they are required to have a certain amount of uniforms, shirts, etc. in their sea bag. $700 sounds about right to me.
I didn't realize I hit post, I was on my phone. In the grand scheme of things, that $700 went really far. Navy has even more uniforms than AF, and my initial issue included but was not limited to: 2 pairs Gortex combat boots, BDU field jacket, four sets BDUs, four tshirts, a bazillion pairs of green socks, four PT uniforms, two sets PT sweats, running shoes and athletic socks, four dress shirts, two pairs dress pants, two skirts, lightweight blue jacket, blue trench coat, dress shoes, duffel bag, towels, locks for my wall locker, dog tags, my portfolio, and lots of other things. The Eagle Cash was used for dry cleaning the whole time I was there (at the time, BDUs had to be laundered and pressed) as well as toiletries and phone cards.
That $700 up front will save a ton of frustration in the coming years.
Also, his dependent rate BAH may not have kicked in yet. He may end up with back pay at some point.
Very true. I didn't really take into account the mass amount of stuff he has to pay for. Thank you!
