Happy Friday Ladies. I have decided to stop guessing when I 'O' and ordered some OPK's. I got the ClearBlue Easys. The box says to start testing daily beginning the 5th day of my cycle. I just got them in the mail today, and tomorrow is cycle day 11. Does it matter? I guess my question is, how does it know if there's a surge? I did google a bit for an answer first. FertilityPlus . org has a chart based on cycle length of when to start testing. My cycles have been 30-32 days, so I should start testing day 13-15.
HELP!! I'm so confused. I'm guessing that clearblue says to start on day 5 so I don't miss the surge? I guess my ultimate question is, can I start testing tomorrow and it won't be a waste of tests?? If I haven'to'd already (based on cm I have not) it will still work?
Thanks for reading and helping a semi-dense ttc newbie!
Re: TTC: OPK Questions
It 'matters' only in that you may have O'd on day 10 and you missed it. it's not like the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor thing that 'learns' about your cycle. This is just like POAS to see if you're pregnant - it just detects a rise in hormone level.
You can try starting now and see what kind of results you get.
I tell everyone this about OPKs. I tested 2x/day. I don't know why, maybe b/c I was POAS happy, but I did. I am so glad I did because I got my only positive result in the afternoon one day. I tested in the AM, negative. The next AM - also negative. Had I only been doing it once a day I would have missed mine.
net-net it shouldn't have mattered b/c we were BDing already but I thought it was really interesting - - esp. if people have irregular cycles (I don't).
Thanks Naylon. Fertilityplus also recommended testing between 2-8pm (same time daily) because the surge may not be detected in am urine.
I guess I'll start now and hope I didn't miss it.
I agree with Naylon's explanation.
Supposedly, it is best to test in the afternoon after going 2 hours without peeing so your urine is not diluted and your LH has time to fully surge. I never got truly positive OPKs in the am. It was hard for me to do this at work, so I ultimately switched to the monitor which uses first morning pee. I would definitely start with the sticks first.
Like PP said, as long as it's not the CBEFM, you should be fine. My OPKs said to use them in the afternoon but after not drinking or peeing for 3 hours or something like that. That was always impossible for me so I always tested in the morning so my pee would be less diluted and when I got close, I would test twice a day. I never had a problem getting a positive in the morning. GL!
