Flu Shot versus Flu Mist

I have always done the shot for Blake but this year am thinking of going with the Mist- anyone else do the Mist for their preschooler??

Re: Flu Shot versus Flu Mist

  • We did it for C --- he's 2. He took it like a champ --- and I loved the no pain part :) They just shoot some up both nostrils.

  • We don't do it but only because we have asthma and an immune compromised child.  With asthma, they don't want you to get the live virus, as a result, we do the shot.

  • I can't remember what we did last year, but it may have been the mist.  I'll try mist this year becuase I'd rather her not have a shot!
  • Both Riley and Malorie did the flu mist last year. ?It was pretty easy for them to do as opposed to the shot.

  • We did flu mist.  The only problem was a small fever that last about 6 hrs a day after the mist.
  • H had shot, did not get the flu.

K had mist, and got the flu.

DH had shot, got the flu

I got shot, did not get the flu

  • We've always done the Mist, or at least as long as it's been available to them.

Is he allergic to anything??  for some reason I thought he was, and I don't think they can have it if they are allergic to eggs?  And maybe something else...

  • Cohen has always done the mist ever since he was old enough. Chris has done the mist past couple of years. I always do the mist too unless if I am pregnant. We have never experienced side effects. Do the mist for Blake. It's a breeze.
  • Jameson did the mist this year. He didn't like it, but he didn't cry! :-)

All Flu meds have egg in them (unless you get the egg free vaccination, usually from an allergist).  People who can't have the flu mist are immune compromised, asthmatic, or others with similar illnesses because the mist is the live virus while the shot is not.
