Crazy low interest rates & Texas DP program.

Just curious, to those that have locked in rates recently, what were you able to get? We just locked in a rate at 3.00% and I am absolutely floored! I didn't even think this low of a rate was possible. :-) This is in Austin, Texas.

Also, for any of you that happen to be in Texas and are looking for a home, we just learned of a new bond program that gives first time home buyers 10k to use towards dp and closing costs. You do have to pay the loan back within 10 years, but it is zero percent interest throughout the life of the loan. You also have to have a household income of 60k or less. Hope this info helps someone out!

  • 3%??????  is that a 30 year fixed??
  • Wow.  We just got 3.75 on a 30 year fixed and I thought that was pretty good...

  • It's a 30 year fixed standard FHA loan. DH and I both have really good credit and zero debt, so that may have had something to due with it.
  • Holy cow and I was thrilled with my 4%!

  • what area in austin are you in?  We just built there (closed in June) and thought we were getting a deal at 4.875%.  I asked DH about re-finanancing... and he laughed since we have just moved.  Oh well...
  • The house we are buying is in Cedar Park, close to the Austin city limit lines.
  • How do you like Cedar Park? My H and I are moving to Austin in about 5 months... We currently live in Hawaii, and we can't BELIEVE how inexpensive houses are by Austin compared to Honolulu! I can't wait. Great deal on the 3% for you!
  • We love Cedar Park! It has grown tremendously in the past 10 years. Unbelieveably so. Easy access to highways and toll roads that can put you downtown Austin in 20 min if there isn't any traffic....but if traffic is bad it can take nearly an hour.

We currently live in North Austin and the home that we are going to be moving into located in Cedar Park is under a 10 minute drive. That's how close Cedar Park is to Austin. I'd say it's your second best option (compared to Round Rock, Georgetown and Leander) if you can't afford Austin city limits home prices. Living in downtown Austin is nice, but MUCH more expensive.

I've been in Austin 10 years and love love love it.  We are within Austin's city limits, but on the southwest side of town.

Fwiw, Cedar Park is a great area.  Good schools and it's really growing.  However, (to the pp from Hawaii) if you're coming to Austin I'd really encourage you to look in different pockets of the city.  Cedar Park, Round Rock, NW Austin and South Austin all have really great attributes and are very different in their own rights.  We lived in NW Austin for years - but have fallen in love with South Austin and plan on staying south of the river from here on!  :)
