Beauty School Salons

I know we've talked about this before.  Has anyone tried the services at the Empire School in Portland?  Or at another salon school?  I'm getting to the point where I can't stomach spending a hundred bucks every month to get my hair did.

Re: Beauty School Salons

  • I haven't done this yet, but I'll be watching this thread closely because I'm totally in the same boat!
  • I'm not sure about this one specifically, but I've gone to a few beauty school salons.  What I like about them, besides the price, is that they're almost overly cautious - having to check with their instructors at each step.

I've never had a bad cut or color at a beauty school.

  • My BILs ex-gf used to go to the school across from Pinetree and she did my hair (in MILs kitchen) a couple of times and always did a great job, she gave me the second best color I have ever had, and she was still a student... who ended up dropping out, but still did a damn good job!

  • Awesome.  I'm totally going then.  Thanks, guys!  I'll report back. ;)
  • chimimg in a bit late. I only go to schools because I can't get myself to spend the big bucks. With that said I enjoy going to empire. Its busy, a little chaotic and unprofessional but the price is fantastic and I always leave with a great cut or color. I went last Friday and I was shocked the prices went down! $5 for a shampoo cut and blowdry. Plan on spending extra time - they seem to always take a long time.

  • Jess, I think it was you I was thinking of who mentioned it before.  When I called, the girl recommended an appointment for the weekdays.  Do you usually do that, or just walk in?  I have to go tomorrow to get patch tested so they can color me sometime next week.  I'm pumped at the prospect of spending a fifth or sixth of what I had been.
  • Appointment. It's always busy ;-)
