Academy Award early favorites
Anyone else already looking into what movies may be up for Oscars? I know it's way early, but the Gold Derby site has some predictions. Right now War Horse, directed by Spielberg, is a favorite, as are Meryl Streep, George Clooney/Leonardo DiCaprio, and maybe Christopher Plummer.
I'm excited for the J. Edgar, Eastwood-directed biopic of J. Edgar Hoover, My Week with Marilyn with Michelle Williams playing the lead role, and The Ides of March. Ides looks sooo good. I don't think the Clooney film, Descendants (?) or something, looks that great, but maybe I'll be surprised.
I'm winning this time, insomniac.Pollypocket, watch out.

Oh is that how you get your answers?! Some website?! lol I probably forked over hundreds of dollars watching movies to inform my picks and I think I got 12th.
I've seen previews for War Horse - it looks kind of stupid, but vintage schmaltzy Spielberg so of course it will get a nod.
Moneyball for best adapted screenplay. You've heard it here first! lol
I also hope that Ryan Gosling gets a nod for Drive.

I think my method, reading posts about the guild/critic awards and posts from Hollywood insiders, works pretty well. I really can't go to the theater and see all the movies. I wait for them to come out on video. Some nominated movies are too boring for me (see: Invictus).
Spielberg's done pretty well for himself, and Munich didn't really bring the schmaltz, nor did Schindler's List.

"Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" starring Gary Oldman opens in December and the trailer looks great. I'm hoping that Gary gets an Oscar nod as the movie's masterspy. He rarely gets an excellent movie to star in. The Academy has never properly acklowedged this amazing actor.

I would love to see this movie but the preview alone sent tears down my cheeks. I might try to watch it when it hits Redbox so I can cry in the privacy of my own home!
