'Til 2013 do us part? Mexico mulls 2-year marriage

http://news.yahoo.com/til-2013-us-part-mexico-mulls-2-marriage-232608285.html

It's... interesting?

I feel the whole point of marriage is to make that lifetime commitment - I can't imagine how on edge I'd get every two years at the thought that my other half could opt out with no consequences. Although, maybe it would force people to pay more attention to not letting a relationship die out?

  • I'm with you Kate, the whole point of marriage is making that lifetime committment. Putting in the 2 year option completely changes the meaning of marriage.

I just get a sketchy vibe from the whole idea. It's almost as if the rule will be there to help people avoid the fornication guilt trip they might get if their families are really religious.

  • My friends and I used to joke about this in college when we couldn't imagine having to live with and stay married to the same person for their rest of our lives. That being said it was because we were immature at the time, enjoying the dating scene and not ready to settle down...hence we didn't need to be getting married at that age.

I just don't understand the point of getting married with a deadline to end it set.

  • Just 3 more months... just 2 more weeks... just 4 more days...  we all count down to our anniversaries... can you imagine counting down to the day it is over? weird.

When we went to the courthouse to get more marriage license the guard at the entrance asked Ricky if he wanted the '5 year or the life time one." Smart man, he said lifetime :-)

Exactly. I'm sitting here thinking when I look at my life in 50 years, I see Jon right now next to me..I damn sure see Jon next to me next year. That's just silliness. Utter ridiculousness.
