Re: Discuss...

  • Honestly, it is a chicken, ready to be cooked. IMO it isn't a big deal at all and I find it rather funny.

  • Who cares, it's a chicken. I would eat it. Maybe it's a little ridiculous they way they posed it, but seriously people you can find something to say about everything. You might as well go live on a remote island by yourself if you can't handle a funny picture of a chicken.

  • I did a *gigglesnort* when I read this. I mean, of all the things to get your panties in a wad over, you pick this? I don't get the big deal either. I think it just shows how ridiculous people can get at times.

  • Personally I find PETA ridiculous and extreme. I usually just get pissed off hearing their name because to be honest, they tend to make very general statements about the meat industry straight across the board. For instance, because some cows are abused, we should not eat beef. The answer is not to NOT eat meat, but instead to find alternative ways of getting it and IMO, choosing to eat animals who have been treated with respect that have been slaughtered in a respectful way is going to do a lot more than boycotting the entire industry.... so there is my off topic PETA rant...

As someone in the industry, I think animals should be treated with dignity and respect, and in this case (although most people wouldn't see anything wrong with posing a chicken), I can see where PETA is coming from. That being said, I'm not going to stop eating chicken.

ETA: I went back and looked at it, and yeah, it is actually pretty funny

  • While I am not offended by it, I do find it a little gross and bizzare. I don't get the need to pose a chicken carcass but whatever.

Going to play devil's advocate though. My former boss and her family are pretty hardcore vegetarians/vegans. The sight of a chicken carcass like that would literally make them nauseous. They have now gone without meat for so long that certain smells of cooked meat/visuals of really bloody steaks and um obviously a big chicken carcass posed (really, wtf? that's just strange) can make them nauseous, even though they really have no problem with others eating meat. They are vegetarian/vegan because they don't want to financially support an industry that does sometimes treat animals inhumanely. They decided rather than trying to always make sure the meat they eat was killed humanely and treated appropriately during their lifetime, it was easier to cut it out all together and not worry about it. Makes sense to me. I try to limit my shopping at places I know support causes I do not condone, too. They have friends that own a farm and butcher for meat for their family and it doesn't bother them one bit.

So that's my slant on normal people who might be offended by that picture vs PETA, which is always an extreme.

Well, I'm sure those ads that PETA ran against wearing fur (you know, the ones that featured naked celebrities) offended lots of people, too, so I think both sides should call it even.  And get over themselves at the same time.

I know.  The irony and hypocrisy of it all is hilarious.  Looking for sand in the other person's eye while having a log in your own and everything.   Because obviously posing nude chicken sexily is much worse than posing nude people sexily.  <insert eye roll>
