I intro'd on here a while ago and I'm sure it is vaguely remembered at best. Long story short, I was in the AF for over 7 years and separated when I had my daughter at 23w6d. Things were touch and go for a while but we made it through and she came home on 30 Jul. DH deployed a month later and since I have felt like I am drowning. I am waiting for my GI Bill stuff to be approved and to start classes. But otherwise I am home all day with a special needs infant. I had a break down tonight after Emily spit up three times, horrid medicated reflux.
My question is... Has anyone sought counseling/ therapy while on TRICARE Prime? I am hoping to set some gears in motion on Monday and any advice you may have is greatly appreciated.
Re: TRICARE Prime + Counseling
You can do free counseling 24 hours a day through Mil1Source. Free counseling is also offered on base; I know for the Navy it's at the Fleet and Family Service Center.
I'm sorry you're having a rough time. I'm having a hard time with my totally healthy infant, I can't imagine what you're going through.
There are a number of ways to go about getting counseling. Like PP mentioned, you can go through Military One Source. They will do an assessment over the phone and then schedule you for an initial session with a therapist. The phone consult counts as the first of your 12 covered sessions.
Alternatively, you can call your OB or PCM and get a referral if you have no concerns about confidentiality.
I hope you start to feel better soon!
One source will find a counselor and give you 12 sessions that counselor then Tricare will pick up from there.
I was matched up with my couselor through military one source and then tricare continued to pay afterward so that I could keep going.
