Recs for companies who install storm doors?

We need a new storm door on our front door. I have used Home Depot in the past for these types of things but DH said that the last time that they replaced 3 of our storm doors at our old house that it ended up being a huge PITA. So, DH said "Can you ask your message board for recommendations?"

We are using Thompson Creek to replace our gutters (thanks to a Nestie for the recommendation) but when we asked them about the storm door they said that prices start at $1200. Ouch! I'm thinking something more in the $500 and under range total with installation. Let me know if anyone has any recommendations. Otherwise we'll just have to go with HD again.

  • No recs, but we're looking for the same thing. We tried to get a quote from Long Fence and they were a-holes just to get a quote! So I don't recommend them.

  • We got quotes a couple of years ago, and found that a lot of the window places have a minimum.... and, we found that our front door is a non-standard size.  GAH!  Everywhere we checked was between $1000-1300.

Did you ask Thompson Creek at the same time they did your gutter estimate?  If they know they're doing both, maybe it would be cheaper?

  • There's Wheaton Door and Window, but our neighbors got a quote from them and said they were really pushy and not at all inexpensive. I've not used them personally.

    We got the same impression.

  • Thanks everyone. Sounds like we'll go with Home Depot. I had a door installed by them for my condo recently and it was around $500 and that included them having to build out part of the door (since it wasn't a perfect fit). So, I'd rather pay that than $1K and up.
