I just talked to my mom. My grandma (on my dad's side) took my grandpa (who NEVER goes to the Dr) up to the hospital a little bit ago for chest pains, and he's now being wheeled into surgery.
Based on the texts my dad was receiving from my grandma, it's my grandpa's gallbladder. It's obviously serious enough to be sending him in for emergency surgery--I'm assuming it ruptured or a stone is causing a major blockage.
Either way, t&p's would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. Does it make me a bad person to worry about MY gallbladder now? I have stones, and luckily haven't had any attacks in a while (knock on wood) but this now scares me into thinking maybe I should have surgery to remove it before it becomes an emergency even though I'm absolutely terrified of surgery.
Re: T&P Please!
Since you have a family history (as do I!), you probably already know this... yes, a person can survive without the gall bladder, but life is dramatically altered for most. Your gall bladder stores a reserve of bile, which helps digest fats, and without it you can't have hardly any fat in your diet. Nothing fried, etc.
This is a big deal in the south!
I would not have mine removed unless it was absoultely necessary.
Life of mrsjanks
I sort of see two PCPs in the same practice, depending on who is available. The guy I first started seeing doesn't seem too concerned and wouldn't do surgery unless an infection occurred. The second guy (and the gastroentrologist he referred me to) seemed to think it'd be better to just have to removed after I have the baby and avoid an emergency situation in the future.
I obviously like the sound of the first Dr better since being put under terrifies me, especially with 2 little ones.
I always consider it when I'm having a particularly bad attack, but at most, they last a day or two before fading. I haven't had anything too bothersome in months, so at times like that I think, why put myself through surgery? Ahh, hopefully I'll be just fine as long as I try to watch my fat and get it monitored each year.
Thoughts and prayers definitely coming your way!
As you know, I had my gallbladder out recently. The worst part about it is not being able to eat greasy/fatty foods that i used to. But sometimes even healthy foods don't agree with me. I actually had a gallstone stuck in one of my ducts (?) that was causing me alot of pain which is one of the reasons why i opted to have mine taken out. I had the laproscopic surgery done so i only have 4 small scars as opposed to having one large one. When i would have an attack i would be up all night in pain, which is another reason why i chose the surgery.
