Ideas for gift for friend having surgery?
This week my GF in Philly is having surgery to remove thyroid cancer. She's understandably freaked out. This is on top of a recent miscarriage. She's a mess and I wish I could be with her in person.
What to send to a really good friend that is heartfelt and not cheesy? She likes reading, music, and knitting (though I have less than no clue about knitting, so I don't want to buy yarn for her - I wouldn't know what to get). She'll be home from work a week to two weeks healing - I'm trying to think about something that she can enjoy while sitting around her house?
I don't know why I can't think of anything creative. I'm not a great gift giver.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
Re: Ideas for gift for friend having surgery?
Does she have a kindle or an e-reader? Last year SIL was sick with a super bad case of mono and had to take almost a month off from college. She's a huge reader and had just gotten a kindle so we sent her an amazon electronic gift certificate to use to buy books for reading while she recovered. You can do the same with iBooks on the iPad I know, and probably for the Nook too.
Otherwise gift cards for restaurants that do take out/delivery so she doesn't have to worry about cooking are usually a good idea.

I wouldn't worry about cheesy. When I had miscarriages and medical scares I loved the cheesy gifts. Flowers are as unoriginal as it comes but I always appreciated that. Other options are GC to various delivery places are great so she won't have to worry about cooking, GC to a local place for a mani/pedi or massage (and I think FTD floral delivery type places will do a full spa gift basket with lotion, bubble bath and the gc).
And ditto the kindle idea.
