I looked back a few pages and didn't see this discussed, so my apologies if it's a frequently talked about topic. We have a fairly small house with hardwoods and I am vacuuming at least once a day, if not more, because LO is crawling and walking all over the place. I know a Roomba won't replace a deep clean and edging with a regular vacuum, but I'm hoping it eliminates the need for me to do it every. single. day. I especially like that it gets under the couch and other furniture. But there are so many models.
Just looking for a rec if you have one and love it, or even if you tried it and hated it, please tell me that too. I'm not convinced yet, but want some reviews from others!
Re: Does anyone have a Roomba?
We have one and I love it. We have all hardwood with area rugs. I have two dogs that shed quite a bit (especially in the summer). I schedule it to run every other day and most of the year it does a really good job of keeping the area rugs and hardwood fur free. Only when our dogs are going through their big shed in the summer do we have excess fur, but if I ran it each day that might be eliminated. I do have to clean the rollers quite often due to the fur, but that takes me less time than vaccuuming with an upright would. We use our upright once a week to get into corners and do the stairs.
My only complaint is we have several pieces of furniture that are too low for the roomba to fit under completely and too high to block it completely so it gets half stuck under them and often I come home to a stuck roomba and have to restart it to get my floors clean that day.
Another plus is if anything goes wrong with it there are a lot of people out there online that have solutions to Roomba problems. I've had a few issues (due to dog hair and the Roomba getting wet) and I was able to fix them on my own using info I got online.
We have one and we LOVE it. We have three cats and lots of shedding, so I usually run it at least once a day, alternating between floors. Our dining room table gets it "stuck" (as per PP), but I'm thinking of getting some risers to lift it a bit - we're talking only about half an inch or so. The Roomba model we have is about 3-4 inches off the ground at its tallest point so it's not a problem anywhere except that table (we have a crisscross pattern at the base of the table that is just about that high).
We just this morning started shampooing our carpets and when we finished one area, I let the Roomba do his thing to move the air and encourage drying. I totally wiped out the battery so he's "feeding" now and we'll finish later.
BTW, ours' name is Dizzy ('cause he keeps going around and around and around... heh).
we have one and don't use it at all. It wouldn't go on to our rugs, got stuck all the time under the table and it always thought it was done, but hardly did anything. And the compartment filled up so fast, that it was just frustrating. Now that I type all of this, I'm thinking I should take it back to Costco!
once it got stuck under our cabinets and I almost had to breaks it's "eye" off to get it out.

I have this Roomba. I love it! We have a combination of hardwoods and carpet plus 2 dogs. I found myself vacuuming almost everyday, the roomba really helps me in between deep cleanings and gets in places I can't with the vacuum (like under the couch and coffee table.
It does a great job with dog hair. Just be sure that there are no cords laying around, that is roomba's only nemesis
They are def worth the money, and time saving!!!
we have a roomba and we have a Neato coming on Monday. We've owned the roomba dirt dog (terrible, don't waste your money), a normal roomba, which we ran everyday and have to say it works pretty well. Wher eit does work, as pp mentioned, it can get stuck halfway under our furniture. the brushes get really filled up with dog hair (we have a black lab), and it doesn't transition from rugs to carpet to hardwood.
We scoured online reviews and decided to get the Neato. We will still run our roomba daily upstairs where there is only carpet, but the Neato is supposed to conquer all of the issues that we had with the Roomba.
I like mine, but it definitely has its limitations. As long as you are using it for maintenance in between more thorough cleanings with your regular vacuum, it does a good job.
Pros: It goes underneath our bedroom furniture, which is the room that needs the most vacuuming with dust, dog hair, and little feathers from pillows and comforters; it is nice to just set it and walk out of the room while it does the work and you can do other things; it seems to do a good job and get lots of hair, dust, dirt, etc.
Cons: It takes quite a while to fully clean one room (around an hour to clean our bedroom which is 14'x14'); it takes several hours to charge between cleaning sessions; it will suck up thin cords so you have to make sure you lift them off the floor first; it sometimes bangs into my furniture (it senses walls and low furniture, but bangs into things like thin legs); and it has a hard time transitioning from a hardwood floor to a high pile rug
It was a gift, and I am glad that I have it, but I am not sure if I would spend the money on it myself.
