Vinegar in steam cleaner

I can't stand the way the shampoo smells or makes my carpets feel. I often use very little, then go back over the carpet with just plain water. Has anyone ever used vinegar and water in their machines?? TIA

Re: Vinegar in steam cleaner

  •  I found a recipe for it and was going to ask the same thing :)

  • Vinegar is used as an eco-friendly fabric softener, so I would make a 50/50 mixture and give it a shot.

  • I have done it. It made my carpet much fresher, and didn't hurt the cleaner at all.
  • Well, I finally tried this last night. I measured out the recommended amount of cleaner solution in vinegar (but may add a little more the next time). I was a little worried when I first started because it smelled like hot vinegar in the room, but my whole house smelled fine this morning once it was dry. Carpets even felt clean (like brand new)!

Glad it worked for you.  My husband has always had a horrible aversion to the smell of vinegar (gags and gets nauseus on the spot) and I clean with it all the time.  I just can't do it when he's home.
