Good Morning MN!

Happy Monday!

What are you up to today? Has fall finally arrived in your neck of the woods?

Re: Good Morning MN!

  • I'm working today. Have to throw the ribs in the crockpot for dinner here in a bit and then go hop in the shower. I have some laundry to do tonight when I get home and I think I'll just have soup for dinner and leave the ribs for E. Its suppose to rain this evening and I am SO excited. It finally feels like fall here and I love it.

  • Good morning!  I'm working from home but it's a super slow day.  Sophia is napping on me right now.  Tonight I have photography class so I'm sending my homework to Walgreens to be printed.  I'm going to make meatloaf muffins for dinner.

Fall has finally shown up in NJ.  It was chilly all weekend and it's a shock how chilly it is this morning.  Sophia and I both needed coats when we made a Wawa run this morning.  I hope it stays like this and doesn't go back to hot temps.

  • Work and self medicating.  With this fall weather has come the first cold of the season!  I swear it is like my body rebels against cooler weather.  HAA The temsp dropped in to the 50s at night and my nose stopped up.  JOY!!!

How did you do your rib?  That sounds really easy and something I can do for dinner.

  • It certainly feels like fall here though the leaves are not yet changing; that won't happen for another month. Delightful high today is suppose to be 63 which I'll enjoy snuggled up in my new sweater. Tomorrow we'll climb back up into the upper 70s; which isn't horrible either but I'm digging the 60s.

A new work week and the insanity of the last few weeks have left everyone in whip lash mode this morning though now we still need to keep moving forward as we have to a ton of catch-up to do with our normal projects that have gotten pushed to the wayside as secondary in importance. Sucks since we have a deadline in just a few weeks for our bi-annual magazine which is a beast all of its own making.

  • Morning!  It's really chilly here so I'm planning on spending the day inside.  I need to get in contact with the housing office today because our neighbor has been leaving their dog outside a majority of the day and night on a short lead and without any shelter.  H went to go talk to our neighbor yesterday and the guy brought the dog in, but it's back outside now.  I'm almost positive that you're not allowed to leave dogs outside unattended so I'm going to let the housing office know about.  The poor thing whimpers most of the day and I feel really bad for it.

  • My Monday's not off to a great start, but I'm determined to get through it without spreading a bad mood.

Rudi has always been a really thin dog, high metabolism and because of his OCD, he moves nonstop.  People make comments about it when we're in public.  Well, when we upped his Buspar a month ago, he dropped weight really fast even though we increased his food intake by about 30%.  We'd feed him even more, except when given too much food (for him, it's 1lb 8oz) he vomits, so neither the food or his meds stay down.  So, dog eats 1lb 7oz of meat twice a day, plus whole fat yogurt, squash, carrots, treats, and pretty much whatever else he wants (that he's not allergic to), so around 5+% of his healthy-for-him body weight.  We're talking ham and cheese roll ups, people.  An average dog only needs 2%, so it's not as though we're starving him.

BUT, he lost 10lbs in the last month.  He looks gross.  I pat his booty and all I feel is bones.  He's like a furry Michael Jackson.

Joe took him to the vet this morning and she said to add 2 cups of instant white rice for every 3lbs of meat he's eating and I'm really sad about it.  I know the raw diet is not the problem because my other two dogs are thriving and maintaining their weight.  Rice just seems so unnatural for a dog and I'm not looking forward to the blood sugar spike caused by the refined carbs.

  • Oh, and about fall.  Our leaves changed last week, but our temps were in the high 80s over the weekend, so I think we've got a few more weeks until we have snow.

    Sad

Can you substitute brown rice?  It's slightly better. Is there another type of grain you can add to his food that will give him calories but keep his blood sugar more stable?

I do a modified version of SgtM'sWife crockpot ribs that are in her blog. Basically for mine I just put a no salt seasoning on the ribs, put a couple of cloves of garlic in the bottom of the crockpot and throw my ribs in. I pour a 32 oz container of beef broth in and turn it low and call it good. I tend to flip the ribs when I come home at lunch just to be sure they get cooked well all the way through( even the ones that don't go all the way into the liquid).

I'm so so sorry about Rudi. My brother's Harlequin Great Dane they rescued is like this too. But his is because his previous owners had no idea about how to care of big dogs and were only feeding him 4 cups of dry food a day, when he should be having 8. He still hardly eats the 8 and is so so so skinny.

I hope that Rudi starts to get better soon and that the rice helps, even if you do brown so its a bit healthier.

I asked specifically about the brown rice and the text I got back was, "Nope, Minute rice.  Purely for the carbs."

I need to double check his allergy report to see if he can have oats.

  • I'm not sure if this would technically be considered fall just yet...the lows are in the 50s but highs still near 90...but after the ridiculous summer we had, this feels like fall. :P It's been nice and cool, and I love it.

Today's been crazy so far. Had an 8am meeting, my schedule's changing around since one of my coworkers will be out unexpectedly this week, and DS might be sick. Been a crazy day, but it's making it go by fast. Should probably get off The Nest so I can get all the way caught up on emails...

Thanks! I will try that out!!! I love ribs in the cooler months.

  • Morning! I'm at work all day today, but I think once I'm off I'm going to go lie on my couch with a heating pad on my back. I went shooting yesterday and the rifle I was shooting (lying down) had some wicked recoil and my lower back felt it.

It's supposed to rain soon, but it's cool now so I can finally pull out my sweaters! I'm so excited!

  • I'm stuck working all day and then have a drs appt this afternoon. At some point I have to sqeeze in more homework.

It is pretty cold here. I keep a fleece blanket in my car for DS since I think dragging a child out in to the cold mornings at 6:30 am is cruel. Once I strap in the carseat, I'll tuck the blanket in around him. This morning he definitely asked for the blanket before we even walked out the door.

  •  I am just having a boring Monday. R had cq yesterday so he is sleeping.   am making some Kalua Pork and it smells AMAZING in my house.  I just put G down for a nap so I think I am going to work out then take a super hot bath and start a new book.  A is watching Blues Clues and should be going down for a nap in an hour so lets hope he agrees.  Fall is here, it's nice a cool here and feels so nice to enjoy a warm cup of coffee in a cool house.

  • A woman who was on MM asking for budget help because she's now a SAHM because of her special needs child is now on 1 tri talking about her boobs being sore and needing to take a test. UGH. I'm not sure why I'm so bothered.

Today is one of my dog's gotcha day! He is getting homemade puppy ice cream (yogurt, pumpkin, banana, honey)  and also has a pork neck to chew on!

  • Today's agenda: work, teleconference call for work (where I'm on the phone for three+ hours, but talk for all of about 5-10 minutes of it).  Then string therapy this evening (knitting meeting-up... DH started calling it string therapy a while ago, and it's amusing to me).  I'm looking forward to going, because it's been a couple weeks since I was last able to go, and I've started a new sweater, and the yarn is working up beautifully.  I've never worked with it before, and it's gorgeous...

If the teleconference call ends early enough, I'll be tossing a chicken into the crock pot for supper.  If not, we'll be having something out of the freezer.  I'm hoping I can get the chicken on...

Yep, fall has arrived, most definately!  It's gray and dismal and rainy and chilly, and I'm freezing my butt off.  I don't usually freeze my butt off at these temps, so I'm hoping my bloodwork followup appointment next week indicates something for me.
