Thoughts on Annapolis

Hey ladies,

My husband and I are considering a move to Annapolis. What are your thoughts of it? We have two little girls so I'm hoping there are things close by to do with them during the day since I stay home with them.

It depends on what area of Annapolis. There are parts I would love to live in and not so nice parts as well. What is your price range - that can help narrow down areas? I would also suggest Severna Park, Arnold and Crownsville, all surrounding areas that also are nice. Our next move will be in one of those places.

I own a condo in Arnold, and DH and I would have loved to have stayed in the area, but some places can be pretty pricey. Broadneck (Arnold) school district is one of the better areas in the county.

Ditto previous posters. Davidsonville and Riva are also really nice. It would help to know what type of housing (SFH, townhouse, condo) you're looking for and your price range. There are some sketchy neighborhoods in Annapolis so you have to be careful where you end up. I would also consider renting for a while first to see what areas you like.

Its a great town-I lived there for 5 years but ultimately we ended up buying 15 minutes away because at the time we couldn't afford what we wanted there.

you just have to be careful because Annapolis is known for putting really nice neighborhoods next to really sketchy ones and the crime can spill over.

But-there are great restaurants, shopping, fun things to do, nice parks etc.

Traffic can be sucky, even in the middle of the day, I think because there is a larger percentage of people there who work on their own time, etc (or super rich people who just tool around on their yachts all day, lol).

Where do you live now? I work in Annapolis but live in Crofton. As some other posters say, I might suggest some of the Annapolis suburbs. I love Crofton, personally. It's hard to tell in Annapolis where the good versus bad parts are, and it can be very expensive.

We rented a condo in Windgate in Annapolis off of Bestgate Rd. for two years and moved in March. I didn't like condo living, but I loved Annapolis. There are several complexes over there, some with townhouses. It was great because we were close to downtown, close to the mall, close to Route 50, and not far from the Target/Whole Foods. We never had any safety concerns. There are several parks nearby. I much preferred it to where we are now, but we wanted a single family home and couldn't afford one in a nice part of Annapolis and we also heard a lot of mixed reviews about the schools.
