Question for moms

Do we need a swing for baby?

We have a Rock N Play Sleeper, a bouncer (SnugABunny) and a Jumper.

Does the RNP kind of double as a swing or do you think we should get a separate swing as well?

Our shower was this past weekend, so we got a bunch of goodies. We're going shopping this coming weekend to buy what we still need.

Re: Question for moms

  • I dont have a RNP but I LOVE my swing. Some babies love them and some hate them. Charlotte loves hers and it has saved us on the days that she will not take a nap. I think its kind of a toss up - if you dont have one you might not miss it, but I would die without ours now.

  • Yes.

We had a RnP for sleeping, a bouncer/bouncy seat and a swing and used them all. The RnP doesn't rock enough to substitute for the swing. We used the swing a lot for naps and to calm him down when he was fussy.

  • Nate loved his swing and didn't care for the bouncer/seat. Ours wasn't a "bouncer" though. Just a vibrating seat. We were lucky and borrowed a friends swing and seat which were the older version of the snug a bunny but when we have another, we will buy a swing. He slept in it a lot. He would still like it but he's too big for it :-( he's gigantic.

  • I would say yes, you need a swing. Ellie didn't like hers much at first, but as she got older (4 months or so) it really became a lifesaver for those times when you just need to put them down for a few minutes. The swing worked better than anything to soothe her and help her sleep. And on the nights when she would wake up at 2am? I would feed her, the put her in the swing next to my bed and she would be happy as a clam.
  • Any recs on which swing to get? Or are they all pretty much the same thing?

  • The best advice I received was that it had to have the option for a plug- I loved the snug a bunny but it doesn't plug in- now that I see it and how Charlotte plays in hers, that wouldn't have done much good for us. We have the Fisher Price cradle and swing and I love it- we have the luv u zoo one. It has two reclining positions, and swings two ways. The songs are manageable (some baby toys and such are terrible when it comes to music). I like that she has a tray to play with now and we just kept it off when she was a newborn and couldn't wiggle out that much.
  • We had a Fisher Price one too, I don't know which one because it was a hand me down, but it had zoo animals on it. Anyway, we liked it because it had three speeds and it could swing either front-to-back or side-to-side.
  • We have the snug a bunny swing and it does plug in ( the little lamb one doesnt) an Teaghan still loves it.

your right! I knew one of them did and one didnt. A lot of our friends had it and like it, but when Charlotte would go to their houses, she gets a little rowdy in them!  I feel she is a little more secure in the others.

  • I have the same swing as Kelly. Fisher Price Luv U Zoo. The first one we had, the motor died, so we upgraded to the SnugaBunny. Hunter HATED it. He would scream everytime his butt hit the seat. So we went back to the Luv U Zoo and I have my happy baby back!

  • Evie was a bigger fan of the bouncer than the swing. It's one of those things that your baby either loves or doesn't love.  There's not much in between.  She would hang out in the swing, but she would not sleep in it.... She would, however, fall asleep in the bouncer or the RNP.

FWIW, we got this swing:  http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4102339.  To me, all the swings do the same things but this one is nice because it's small and can travel well.  The full size swings are actually pretty big... we originally got the Snug-A-Bunny, but our place is small and it took up our entire living room (or felt like it, anyway).... So it went back and we got the Bright Starts one instead.

  • We didn't register for a swing. I figured I was going to wait and see how he likes the bouncer and R&P, and if they just don't seem to do the trick we'll get a swing. We have a small house and it's already getting pretty crowed with Sawyer swag. lol
  • Definitely get a swing. We didn't because we wanted to sage the money but we really really wished we had gotten one instead of the bouncer/vibrating best. Although Alex is now using that again since it works really well for him to sit in and feed himself his bottle now.

Ugh I wish Nathan wasn't so gigantic. He doesn't fit in those or the rnp anymore so I have to jolly rig all this stuff for him to feed himself while I get the other kids ready in the morning lol. So crazy!

  • Upside to a swing?  Battery operated.  With the RNP you have to rock is or depend on the baby to rock it for you.  With the swing you just strap the baby in, turn it on, and hope for the best!  Get the swing, I say...
