So that's why so many of you like midwives!!

A few weeks ago someone posted asking if people prefer midwives or DR's for pregnancy care (Daniele maybe? I'm too lazy to look back).

Anyways, I posted that I had a bad experience with the midwife at my practice. Well today I met the other midwife. I was really hesitant to meet with her because of my experience with the other one. I'm so glad I saw the second one today though! She was so awesome! She took so much time to explain things to me. She really answered all my questions a lot more in depth than anyone else there has and really just seemed so sincere. I felt like I could tell her anything and that she truly cared about me and the baby (I get that feeling from most the DR's too, but it was just different with her...more personal I guess and not so much "clinical").

My favorite part was when we listened to the baby's heartbeat, she actually talked to the baby in a really soft voice calling him by his name and everything. Made me tear up, because DH and I don't even talk to the baby, so it was so awesome having someone look at my belly and talk to him and call him by his name.

  • Glad you had a good experience.  I don't think I'd ever want to give birth without a midwife, that's how strong my ties were with mine!

  • Glad you had a good experience, that's what it is supposed to be like with a midwife!

  • Glad you had such a good experience!  I loved my midwife - she delivered both Jake & Katie and was absolutely amazing.  There were some I liked much more than others.  As far as the amount of time allotted by insurance to spend w/ each patient, one of the midwives told me that they're allowed to spend 20 minutes per patients, whereas the OB is allowed 10 minutes...definitely the reason I think I felt so rushed under the care of the OB's.

  • I am pregnant with my first kid.  I am currently with a midwife and my husband and I both really like her I am a bit nervous about not having a Dr.  I know nothing bad about midwives just have never been involved with anyone who has used one.  I am sticking with her because she is so relaxed and comfortable to be with when we go see her.  I am just trying to grasp what she can and can not do I know surgery is out but she said she would be in the room with me if I did end up needing a c-section so that makes me feel a little better.  I am new to the Lewiston area and just went with who my primary Dr suggested.
