I'm going to a friend's wedding on Oct. 16th in the Sarasota area. Are any of you ladies close by? Or, if not, has anyone been and have some recs of things to do?
I'm meeting some friends later on Saturday, but have some free time earlier in the day. I've heard the beach nearby is really nice and the wedding is going to be at the botanical gardens. For those of you who read Water for Elephants, a lot of the pics in it were from a circus museum in Sarasota. I think that could be fun so I may check it out.
Thanks!

Re: Sarasota?
Not this month! My IL's have a place about 30 minutes south, so we go to Sarasota a lot.
The botanical gardens are really nice. I love going over to St. Armand's circle (go to Columbia for lunch and hit up the new-ish macaroon place. Plus they have some fun shops). There is a yacht club at the end of the bridge to St. Armand's-it's also a good place to lunch.
With the circus stuff I think you're thinking about the Ringling Museum of Art. I haven't been, but it is in Sarasota. I can't help with beaches, we go to the one my IL's live next to, which is a little way south, but a nice place to go.
If you want to see some monster homes go to Casey Key (only about 15 minutes from Sarasota. There's a ton of celeb. homes and it's just a fun drive on a nice day.
