A little scared to post this over "there" yet, but...
Thomas Beatie is pregnant again.
Thoughts? There are some...ahem....interesting comments circulating on P&E so I thought I'd see what all of you thought.
Re: A little scared to post this over "there" yet, but...
Good for him and his family
I doubt that the will be in the spotlight as much this time, which is probably better. That was really the only thing that bugged me about it, although I am sure that it helped for them to pay for whatever fertility treatments they needed ect.
Ditto, Dev.
The AW-ishness of it bothers me a little bit, but that's all.
What's bothering me over on P&E are the comments like - "what man? he's not really a man, etc."
Yeah, those comments always get to me. Yes, maybe he isnt biologically male, but he is a man. Legally. People need to get over it.
Not entirely sure, though I do no that he had to cut most (all?) of them out when they decided to try to conceive.
I'm amazed that he's keeping his facial hair and what not even after having the first baby. Like that the hormones not in his body didn't effect those things.
I think the whole "not a man" thing is really just because its not scientifically significant to impregnate someone with a functioning uterus - which "he" has. Just kind of spinning off the whole "why is this newsworthy" thang.
I haven't checked out the discussion on P&CE yet... is it too much to hope that it stays respectful and on-topic?
The way the media has played up their unusual situation (or maybe the way he has played up his own situation) has bugged me. It feels very National Enquirer. "OMG, a pregnant man!" Yeah, but it's not like my brother magically getting pregnant. Can't happen. There are other circumstances at play here.
I'd be more interested if someone was born male, with XY chromosomes, without a uterus or ovaries, and then became pregnant.
