Can you keep Luke in your thoughts too please?

Luke had a tonsillectomy past Thursday and it has been a lot harder than I thought it would be. I knew he would be in pain and I knew to expect a week of healing but I did not think it would be THAT much pain and last that long. We are on day 5 and he just seems worse today than yesterday. He is in so much pain and I feel so helpless.

Please keep him in your thoughts in addition to his daycare mom's husband.

Is it just me or has 2011 been a pretty bad year. No matter who I talk to, including our own family.,. it seems like this year has been full of heart ache, physical pain, mental pain, sickness and death.  Did anyone else notice that?

On top of that the earthquake, hurricane, amount of rain .... I know I am a downer right now and my perspective is probably completely compromised by worry, but sometimes I wonder if that is what the beginning of the end of the world feels like

  • I know that it is different for everyone but have you tried calling his doctor about it hurting so bad still? My daughter had her tonsils out last year and while she was in a bit of pain at first it did seem better by the end of the week. It might be worth it to have it checked and make sure that the incision area is not infected. That could possibly be why its still hurting so bad.

In any case I hope he starts feeling better soon.

  • Jenni-my coworker was telling this story almost exactly. His son had it done and seemed to be ok at first then the pain was getting worse and worse. I wish I could remember what the exact issue was, but once they figured it out they got him fixed up really quickly. I will ask him tomorrow morning when I see him what exactly their situation was. in the meantime, i will cross my fingers that Luke starts feeling better very soon.

  • Poor Luke, I hope he feels better soon.  Do you think he is having a complication?  I had awful issues getting my wisdom teeth out but when I went back they were able to make it better.

  • Ok, I just talked to my coworker. He described his son's recovery exactly as you did and said his doctor told him it was very normal. After about a week, the scabs start peeling off and it is like a new wound again, very raw and tender. He said all he could do was keep giving him the tylenol/advil and that it sucks for a few days but it does get better.  He said his son hasn't really been sick since.

    Hope he's feeling better!!

  • Poor Luke!!

I had this surgery a few years ago and recovery was hell. I was miserable for two weeks straight. I would call his doctor to double check but it's not necessarily abnormal that he's taking this long to heal.

If it's any consolation, the surgery was worth the pain for me. I don't know why Luke had the surgery but I had it because I had chronic Strep. I'd get it every few months and my tonsils were always swollen. Since the surgery, I haven't gotten sick at all. Hopefully, Luke will feel better soon and whatever pre-surgery issues he was having will go away.

  • day 7 ios the worst.  they told us that when Kira had the surgery, they were not exaggerating either.  i am so glad they only have one set of tonsils in their lifetime.
  • day 7 is the worst? holy hell, we are on day 6 now (including the day of the surgery) and today as been the worst yet. He has been waking up crying every 2 1/2 hours last night and today he has cried almost non stop. I called the doc and they prescribed a steroid to help reduce the swelling. Trying to get that stuff into him was even more traumatizing.  I want to sit in a corner and cry with him.
