HIMYM- Frustrated

I feel so frustrated with the show! I have to watch because I've gone this far with the show. Sometimes I think they are taking advantage of fans like me dragging the id of the mom out :o)  I can't stop watching!

Re: HIMYM- Frustrated

  • I watch it less and less.  Last year I just didn't get into it as much and this year I fell asleep during the first episode and caught the last part of the episode tonight.  I think it has run its course.
  • I broke up with the show this year because it just wasn't the show I fell in love with anymore.  IMO, the characters have become more and more exaggerated and the storylines are kinda cheesy.  I console myself with rewatching episodes from season 2.

  • I honestly do not care who Ted ends up with, he is my least favorite character.

I watch for Barney's antics, Marshall and Lily, and Robin.

we will not meet the mother until the end of this season at the soonest, and possibly not until next season.

  • Stopped watching two seasons ago for this reason. I can't stand Ted, either. I also posted this in another thread and got flamed. I guess no one is allowed to be over a show? I am over HIMYM. Hope the show ends with Ted realizing that he needs to stop his quest for constantly pining for his wife.
  • I still love it. Maybe I'm just very patient.

  • I still love this show, but they are really dragging it out. Hopefully the mother will be someone who is worth the wait.

  • Last night was the first chance I've gotten to watch this season...stupid DVR wouldn't record it.  I was a little disappointed...future Ted didn't narrate like he used to but instead Robin did and the group as a whole didn't interact with eachother.  Is this how it's been on the past two episodes?

  • Last night's episode was ridiculous.

  • I stopped watching two years ago. I will catch an episode here and there, but I just don't care for it anymore.

  • I still like it, but don't love it anymore. It's just not as funny or clever as it used to be. I wouldn't mind dragging out the whole "Ted meeting the mother" thing if there were interesting story lines going on around it. I don't think Lily's pregnancy is doing anything for the show, ala The Office.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I don't mind not knowing who the mother is - I've thought from the get-go that we wouldn't find out till the very end, and I'm ok with it. But the storylines just aren't as good, and I am starting to get annoyed with Ted. And I don't think pregnancy does anything for a sitcom, ever, besides bring it down.

  • I think Lily's pregnancy isn't shoehorned into the series, like a lot of other sitcoms seem to do when they're just out of ideas ... Marshall and Lily are in a natural stage in their relationship to have a baby, it's a bright spot in their lives after Marshall's dad's death, and the show is about the gang moving ahead in life so it's normal for the only married couple to have a baby.

But I don't think they're using it all that great as a storyline. Not just yet, anyway. Maybe as she progresses they'll do more with it.

  • I watch HIMYM more for the Lily/Marshall story line than the Ted/mother story line.

  • Agreed with PP - I watch more for Lilly and Marshall then Ted and the mother.

I thought last nights episode was also lackluster at best.

The character that is totally annoying me though is Robyn - she's looking way too pathetic.

Also - I don't like Barnie with a girlfriend - I like him acting like a player - that's the character we've all grown to love!

  • Couldn't agree with you more! I can't believe how awful last night's episode was. I'm hoping they are just in a slump and get back on track. SOON.

  • I think the show should be cancelled and Barney should spin off on his own.  He is the best part of the show.

This!  Ted is annoying, but Robin has been annoying me a LOT this season!

  • Marshall's my favorite. I don't think I've ever been displeased with any of his storylines.

Jason Segel is hilarious. Watch some of the HIMYM outtakes on YouTube sometime ... he and Neil Patrick Harris are great.

Very true.  I actually think that Segel has transcended the show at this point.  I read this interview with him where he seems to be hinting at being bored with the show:

"But when your idol is Peter Sellers, playing one character for eight years isn't what you're trying to do. I don't really feel like I have that much more to offer with this character. Maybe if we got divorced or something?but that's not gonna happen. It's gonna be some iteration of, like, my TV wife opens the fridge, and she's like, "What happened to the birthday cake?" And I walk in with a little frosting here [points to corner of mouth] like, "What birthday cake?"

Us too. We gave up on Ted awhile ago. We can relate better to Lily/Marshall anyway.

  • I hope next season is the last one. I think they have time to wrap it all up pretty nicely before then, and it's going to get stale and lame(r) if they go to Season 9+.

And this makes me wonder if the actors would even AGREE to additional seasons if it were offered to them. The creators are stuck with these five characters because they've shown them in flash-forwards, so it's not like they can kill off Marshall in 2013 if Jason Segal won't sign up for more seasons (since they've shown Marshall as a middle-aged and elderly man several times).

I think the only person they haven't shown in flash-forwards is Barney, aside from that exploding meatball sub thing 10 years in the future. Have they ever shown Robin in a flash-forward aside from that one? Wasn't she on the front porch with the elderly Lily, Marshall and Ted?

  • I'll always love it.  I know other people are frustrated, but when it got picked up for 2 more seasons, they kind of had to stretch it out...

  • I agree that I still love Barney, Lily, and Marshall.  Ted is as annoying as always, and Robin, who used to be somewhat likeable, is just irritating and shrill.

  • I feel like they're trying too hard to funny now. It's not the same but I'll leave it on my TiVo.

  • I know it's the name of the show, but I feel like figuring out who the mom is is not the main point of this show. I think they neded a general arch to a series, but I love the day to day of this show. If we found out who the mother is, the show would be over, and I love this show too much to see it end. I laugh at every episode.
