Random F&B Question

I preface this by saying that I am insanely cheap.

I saw that some of the girls on F&B and on a "shopping fast" for October.  I really don't think it would be hard for me to go a month without buying clothes/shoes/makeup.

What about you guys?

Re: Random F&B Question

  • Wouldn't be hard for me at all.  I have been on a shopping fast for months since our budget is really tight right now.

  • Eh.. I like to shop. I have a bad habit of getting a thing here, a thing there... & spending more than I realize.

BUT... I think it's dumb that one of the girl's Hs is rewarding her with $300 to go shop. Really?! Doesn't that DEFEAT the purpose?

  • I don't think it would be hard overall but it seems like this is a bad time of the year to have a shopping fast. I'm trying to stock up on some basics for the cooler weather and I need to start thinking about Christmas shopping.

  • I always think it's going to be easy to not pick ANYTHING up at all for a whole month, and then totally fail. Like MaryJane said, this is kind of a bad time to promise to go on a fast. I picked up some great basic shirts at gap the other day to replace my long-sleeve tees that are now *mumblemumble* years old, and they were on a really good sale. I've already bought a good portion of my 'extra people' Christmas presents, also on great sales that won't be happening later in the year when they know people want those items. Maybe some random month that doesn't have much going on would be easier, like March.
  • Yeah, this would be hard for me. Maybe if I didn't go to Target or the TC at all during the month I'd be okay. I just like picking up things I like when I see them or need them.
  • I'm not a big spender but this would be hard for me. I need a few winter things right now since most of my clothes don't fit me well or are really old. I'm also already picking up little things here and there for Christmas.
  • I can do that pretty easily.  What's harder for me/us is trying to limit our grocery shopping to essentials only.

Sadly, no! She probably spends double that so he's still saving money. Just like everyone else, I'm bad about picking up things here and there but those girls post recent purchases weekly (some daily) that easily have to be over $100 total each time. They swing by the mall on their way home to casually grab a $300 pair of boots, a $500 purse. Ann Taylor has a 30% off sale and they buy like 10 things every time they have that sale. Seriously, it never stops.

  • In a former life, I would say it would be hard for me to go a month without buying clothes. It would never be hard for me to go a month or even longer buying shoes or makeup.

  • I think some of the F&B girls easily spend over $1000 a month on shopping.
  • I'm one on the girls doing it and it hasn't been hard yet. I'm worried though if it stays this cool if I'm going to last because I don't have a lot of warmer clothes in the size I am now. I really need to stick any extra money in my savings right now just in case anything else comes up with the closing on my house, so I'm going to try to stick to no F&B shopping until November.

The thing about these posters that drives me crazy is EVERY new item looks exactly like everything thing else they already own. One girl has over 21 types of boots and she lives in Florida. I just don't understand buying the same things over and over.

  • I'm cheap, so it would be pretty easy for me.  I've been avoiding the TC/malls for a couple months now since we're thinking of buying a house and TTC, so I've pretty much been on a spending freeze for the past few months.  It kinda sucks, but when I see the difference in my bank account from when I was not on a spending freeze, it makes it completely worthwhile.

  • If we're just talking clothes/shoes/makeup, then yeah, that'd be no big deal. I'm sure I unintentionally have months where I do this. Lately I've been getting some new clothes due to losing weight, but I've pretty much put the lid on that now because my goal is to eventually need a smaller size so I don't want to buy too much now.

On the other hand, I've tried to do a complete spending freeze before (buying only groceries) and that was hard! There's always stuff that comes up. The hardest part for me that month was gift giving - I think it was mother's day and I hadn't planned ahead so I was trying to figure out what to give my mom without spending money. I felt guilty about being cheap when it came to other people in my life.
