does anyone really enter those local news contests?
Even I have a jokey pseudo-interest in local celebrities, but how many people actual enter to win, like, breakfast with a morning news anchor? Or those vacations to Italy with Dave Webber or Pat Persaud? Have you seen these sorts of commercials/entries? Is it only 85-year-old biddies who sign up for these?
I'm intrigued.

A story about local celebrities:
Devon went to HS w/ Brandi Peterson. He had (has) this HUGE crush on her, and told me that since they were in band together, he frequently saw her in her undies. Ok then. Well, for one of my birthdays, a bunch of friends went to Kobe for dinner. Brandi was at the table next to us (and if you've been there, you know that means that they were facing our table). At the end of the meal, they did the shrimp toss bit, and Devon caught one in his eye and made a big commotion. Brandi saw it all and was laughing her ass off. I still make fun of him for embarrassing himself in front of his HS crush.

I always wonder "who signs up for these things" when I see the commercials for the trips. I think back to our trip to Australia when DH signed us up for all sorts of day trips and we were by far the youngest people in the group. I can just imagine the average age of those vacations!
I've caught the HyVee breakfast piece the last few weeks and the women are always normal looking people. One week the winner was a college student and her friends and then the other segment featured a group of moms. The thing is they always show the food ("Ooh, we're having pancakes and hash browns") and it never looks very appetizing, it always looks very monochromatic. The HyVee PR folks probably don't like those shots!
I got a kick out of your story because apparently I look like Brandi Peterson (?) I've had a couple random people tell me that, and then one older lady (possibly senile) asked me if I was Brandi! I think it was because we had similar haircuts for a while...
