Ugly green boxes in my yard (cable/phone?)

Why does every house in my neighborhood have these ugly, ugly boxes in their yard?  My parent's neighborhood (older) doesn't have them, and the neighborhood next to us doesn't either.

Can I get the utility companies to remove them and find another place to put them?  They are such an eyesore. Anyone do this or researched it?

Re: Ugly green boxes in my yard (cable/phone?)

  • Not sure if you can have them moved...but I doubt it.

And just so your aware, if it's cable or phone or whatever, the company has the right at anytime to come into your yard and do whatever they need to to get to those boxes without your permission....pretty sure the people living behind us hate us as the cable company had to bring in a little bobcat and tear up their back yard to replace the cable lines that ran from our house to that box in their yard because they were bad.....they tried to tell Cox they were not going to let them on their property because they are not Cox customers, and that just lead to Cox having to call the police...

Doubtful. I think most new neighborhoods have them. Our does, but thankfully the box is in the yard behind us and not ours. I know Holly has one in her yard, and she is planning on putting some tall grass type of thing in front of it to hide it a little.

  • I highly doubt you'd be able to have them relocate it.  I would just plant something around it.  Hide it with a nice, landscaping project.

  • It's not just one either.  Our box is in our very tiny front yard, and our neighbor's box is halfway between our yard and their yard.  Guess I will just do what Holly is doing with the spray grass.  That idea looks the best from what I have seen other people do with it.
  • I would take a box over all the wires hanging low across our backyards. They are a pain and get knocked down constantly and if you are lucky and they attach them wrong to your house when the hurricane storm yanks them out it will also yank off part of your roof or gutters. Plant some fancy grass.
  • We planted tall flowers and ferns around ours.  They are there because your power lines are buried.  I agree they're ugly, but I'd rather have them then the wires hanging everywhere.  I'd google ideas to cover them up, some people paint them to look like rocks and such.  It's not ideal, but all you can do is go with it!
  • We are extra lucky! We have the ugly green boxes at our current house and even at our old house! I even had the ugly boxes in my backyard as a kid. As for our current house, we planted tall natural grasses and mulch around the boxes. The thing that bothers me most is that the cable people can come in our yard at any time, and we have a dog with a history of escaping through open fences so we have to be vigilant about that in case he (dog) is out back roaming around his "kingdom".
