I have making most of Mason's baby food. The chicken/turkey though is very gritty. Any tips for this? I use ground turkey and chicken, should I use turkey/chicken breasts instead?
Has anyone frozen applesauce? Does it freeze well or not?
If he will eat more than the amount of food that is recommend and still drinks the recommend BM each day, would you continue giving him that amount. Right now he drinks 30 ounces of BM each day and eats 6 tbsp of cereal, 3 tbsp of fruit, 3 tbsp of meat, & 3 tbsp of veggies.
Re: baby food questions
We never did meat until the girls could eat it as finger food (I cannot stomach making pureed meat).
Apples and pears froze fine for me
-applesauce freezes really well. I have some dethawing right now..... Pears are also really easy to freeze (I used to blend the two together) and are pretty inexpensive right now!
-Use chicken breasts or turkey breasts. Chop them into 1 inch pieces and poach in water. I always added a veggie or fruit with them (chicken and pears, chicken and peas, etc....) when I would puree them also, but the breasts are much less grainy than ground. We started using ground meats around 8ish months with Anders in small amounts as finger foods-buffalo and lamb are his favorites.
-IMO, as long as he is getting enough BM, I don't see anything wrong with letting him go over the "recommended" amount of solids...just watch for "done" signs and don't force him to finish a meal. If you're concerned give your pedi a call, I know ours has always been happy to discuss feeding and other non-illness related concerns.
