I'm sure I missed posts about this, but what's going on with your 7th grade Math class? I'm curious because this is my first year teaching 7th grade Math, and I am struggling as well.

Oh man, they just suck. It's filled with kids who should be in spec ed, but have parents in denial. I have one kid who doesn't know 1+1 =2. Like. Seriously.
As for the teaching of math (as opposed to the classroom management which I seem to be focused on), it sucks for me as well. I don't have the right vocabulary to teach it, so it's frustrating for everyone involved.

I hear you....I'm special ed certified, and my school thought the best way to service the 7th graders with IEP's was to have me teach them, along with 7 regular ed kids. I have zero experience teaching math, and am not certified in it either.
I am fortnate to have a Math Specialist share the room I teach in, and she is usally there during my class. She has been a huge help so far this year. But I have gone home nearly every night and read the textbook, and other sources online. I feel bad for the kids, I barely understand it enough to do the work, let alone teach it.
Sorry you're having a a rough year
If you ever need help (at least from the special ed perspective), let me know.
I think the problem is less that they're spec ed, and more that they were placed in HSP last year and have ZERO experience in a regular classroom. One was formally identified as LD, but her school decided NOT to wait for the results of the psych test and said that she WASN'T LD. So she was placed in my class even though her IEP says she needs one-on-one, not one-on-twenty-seven.
And the other big problem is this kid who is working at a grade 2 level. When he was in grade 3, he couldn't recognize all the capitalized letters yet. He's SO far behind and super behavioural to boot. His parents have refused to have him tested, which is just ridiculous and makes me sick.
I hear you about reading the math books at night! Holy moly, I feel like I'm constantly reviewing that stupid thing.
