Re: Mums, Bumps and BBTs

  • Ups: D has started using his fine motor skills. He's been threading cheerios onto yarn, buckling his high chair straps together, and picking up raisins one by one and putting them into his snack cup.

He's back to almost STTN, waking once around 3 am when his paracetamol wears off. After a quick cuddle, some baby orajel, a drink of water and his music played, he's back asleep.

Downs: Still bloody teething! Can't wait for those suckers to pop through. Been waiting for ages now for these two canines to appear. They're driving me nuts.

My MIL gave him a cracker (without reading the ingredients) yesterday which resulted in diarrhea this morning. He cannot have anything with milk in it (allergy), and she doesn't read labels at all. She assumes because the quantity is so low that it won't effect him. Wrong!

QOTD: We don't have a will. We're still deciding who we would have take care of D in the event we both suddenly die. Once we make our final decision (and the people we choose are okay with it!), we'll have the family lawyer draw up the paperwork.

  • 1) How's your week going? Ups? Downs?

Ups? - I'm not as tired as I have been.  I have ordered all the baby furniture, we're going to get - let's just see if it makes it to us before the baby gets here.

Downs?  Fell down 2 or 3 tiled steps, bruised my knee and ankle, but otherwise OK.  DH leaves for an out of town assignment that will have him gone until Dec/Jan.

    2)  QOTW: Do you have a will?  How did you decide who will care for your child(ren) in the event that both of their parents die?

I do not have a will, though I keep saying I need to get one done.  It is writen and understood, who will get our child(ren) in the event that both their father and I die.  I do still need to get a will, though.   We chose two friends that are married to each other, have similar values, are financially stable and mentally capable of dealing with our kids for the rest of their lives.

  • Hi! I'm starting to feel like a whale this week (25w1d). Thanks to my height and long torso, I still don't look particularly pregnant, I mostly just look chubby, but I can definitely tell that my body doesn't bend the way I want it to anymore. My routine of eating nearly all of my meals on my coffee table is going to have to go soon because it is getting awkward for me to lean over and do it. Other than feeling big, I'm feeling fine and I have still been able to stay active and ride my bike or run each day. I'll count that as a win.

QOTW: No, no will. Very bad. H and I bought a will-making kit like two years ago but never followed through with making one. We filled out our 2010 life insurance to give it to each other first and to our siblings as a contingency plan. We don't actually have the child yet, but our alternate child raising plan is to ask my middle brother and his wife as our first choice and H's brother and his wife as our second choice. I guess we should get on that, huh?

This post makes me feel super irresponsible!

. My routine of eating nearly all of my meals on my coffee table is going to have to go soon because it is getting awkward for me to lean over and do it.

I am still doing this and I regret it every.single.time!  Hahaha.  I thought I'd have to give it up like two months ago, but I just kept doing it...I can barely breathe while I eat though and have to sit on the very edge of the couch with my legs open to accomodate my belly.  I'm ridiculous.

Ups: My mom is getting here today and I am FOUR weeks away from my due date!  Ahhhh, so exciting!  Also, I consider it a big up that I still sleep really well.  I'm crossing my fingers that I don't get so big and uncomfy I start having trouble sleeping.  I've made it this far!

Downs: Can't really think of any actually!

QOTD:  We have discussed it once or twice, but haven't come to a decision yet.  I suppose that is something we should really figure out sometime soon... Oh, and neither DH or I have a will.

  • Ups: I just love hanging out with my little boy.  Our lives are alot fuller now that we are back in the UK.  DS has lots of play groups and I am able to hang with my friends again.

Downs:  With jetlag, cold, teething and now impetigo and a fever we have not had a straight week of STTN.  DH is a away for a few days this week and DS just feels rubbish with his fever.  I sure hope it goes soon.

Peachy- having your DH gone for that long, I do not envy you.  I am worried about a week in November when DH will be gone.  I am amazed by you.

QOTW:  No we do not, and no we have no idea.  This is something we discussed but we donot know the answer so therefore we have done nothing about this.

  • Ups: My baby boy is healthy and kicking every single day. I'm officially in the third trimester!!  We ordered the nursery furniture and my first shower is in 2 weeks! Lots of ups for me.

Downs: Pregnancy symptoms have hit me with a vengence in the past two weeks. I was breezing through until literally two weeks ago when they all showed up at once. Ugly stretch marks, hemrroids, back pain, RPL, exhaustion and feeling as big as a house are my constant companions. 13 weeks to go!

QOTW: We actually had a tough decision to make regarding our wills.  We need to get on it and write one already, but there are so many potential hurt feelings and family involved that we really need to to it soon.  In the case if DH and I both go, we want our child(ren) to be raised in a Jewish home so that leaves out my parents and siblings.

DH's younger brother will forever make Israel his home and is too Orthodox for the way we want our children to be raised, DH's father is entirely too strict and old, DH's eldest brother is single and in the Marines, DH's mother is really our only option, but only on the condition that she is willing to move back to the States to be closer to my family.

Later in our lives, we hope that DH's eldest brother gets married and starts a family so we could name him and his wife as caretakers for our children, but until then he just isn't interested in the responsibility.

  • 1) How's your week going? So far pretty good, I've actually started to feel somewhat motivated to get things done again.

Ups? I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow. I hope that I get to hear baby's heartbeat again.

Downs? Still have morning sickness at the most random times, I wish it would just go away altogether.

    2)  QOTW: Do you have a will?  Not yet, it's one of these things we need to do!

How did you decide who will care for your child(ren) in the event that both of their parents die? That's going to be a toughy, but I'm going to say that I would be choosing someone in my family/friends.

  • Ups: The baby has been moving so much and I find it really entertaining. It's also very reassuring.  Only 10 weeks to go! We're going back to the states in 2 weeks for my SIL's wedding and then I'm going to work on setting everything up when I get back.  DH put my glider together this past weekend and it's very comfy!

Downs: I feed HUGE, but it's really all belly.  I think my butt has gotten a bit wider too but oh well. Otherwise I'm starting to realize that I now have physical limitations and cannot walk as fast or walk/stand for that long without my legs being completely exhausted.

QOTW: We don't have a will yet, and haven't made a decision about who we would want to take care of our kids.  We know we want our siblings, but it's not yet settled.

  • I don't have any news to report.  We just finished our seventh cycle and I really felt like we would be successful...and we are not.  I don't know why, but it hit me really hard.

This is so much more difficult than I anticipated.  DH and I are going to give it two more cycles before I go in and speak with my GP.  I have to admit even typing that out hurts and hurts a lot.

QOTD:  DH and I already have wills, so we will just updated them and most likely set-up a trust for our kids.  It is important to us that we do separate our appointed guardian for our kids from any money they would receive in the event of our death so there is no conflict of interest.

  • Ups? The kids are great. M is getting more confident daily with her coasting/cruising. She's even letting go for brief periods. 8/10 times she wobbles and falls, but she's standing up now for 3-4 sec at a time the other times. Exciting stuff. She's also waving and dances on command. W was never such a trainable little puppy, so I'm having fun. And W is loving nursery and runs to school in the morning.

Downs? My HV annoyed me - they are now worried M has gained too much weight (she's now the 75%). Whatever. Also, M scraped her cheek something awful, so just as W is finally not picking his scap on his nose (after 2-3 months), M now has a huge red mark on her cheek. I want my kids to be non-bloody. Oh, and I love W's nursery school but they do not communicate - I never know what they're doing!, which frustrates me.

QOTW: Do you have a will?  How did you decide who will care for your child(ren) in the event that both of their parents die?

No. (We should, I know, but we just keep forgetting - making an appointment is difficult, but I know it' sno excuse.) And we know (and have asked); my sister and her husband will look after the kids. Which is why we really need a will - we need to state that, arrange for who would look after the kids in the short term until she could come over, etc.

    Mum to W (4) and M (nearly 2)
  • Ups: Still having a healthy pregnancy. Baby is growing and moving a lot more. I'm still able to work out.

Downs: Had a rough day made even worse by pregnancy hormones. Was so bad it made the next day bad. Hormones make things so much harder to deal with!!!

QOTW: We absolutely have a will. We have some interesting dynamics to deal with so it was really, really important to us to have a will shortly after BabyD arrived.

DH's mom is a widow and older than my parents (though in better shape), while my parents are alive and together but with physical and health issues/limitations that really concern us. We pretty much doubt our parents ability to 1) live through our kids being 18-yrs old, and 2) their ability to physically care for our kids with their own personal age/health. We evaluated all our siblings and nixed them for various reasons. Was difficult taking out the "but their family!" and evaluating the possible situation as if from the outside.

The couple we have chosen right now  is a similar place in life, similar belief system, would put effort into involving our parents/siblings in our children's lives, would love our kids unconditionally and without reserve, and would really accept being parents instead of guardians.

We are talking about changing our will because our chosen couple is now starting their family and we are having a second child. We need to talk with them and see if they would want to have that potential of a suddenly enlarged family. If they don't, that's ok, but we will have to choose someone else. We've thought about my brother but feel that with him barely getting married this month, her still finishing some schooling, other things in their lives still up in the air, that it's just not the right choice right now. Maybe in a few years depending on what's going on and where they are in life.

  • Ups: DD said her first word(s) the other day and she?s constantly trying to talk! It?s so cute to hear her try.

Downs: She gets into everything, and I mean everything.

QOTW: We still need to get to the lawyer, and just havent yet. I know it?s not a good excuse, but the expense has kept us from going to see one--we were told to plan at least 1000 Euros to do one, and I just don?t have that money floating around. We know who we want (my sister) and probably a cousine of mine to do the trust. It just seems to me that money and children should be kept apart.

  • Hello Ladies!

Mrs DRJ, I am so sorry to hear that this journey continues to be difficult.  You will be in my thoughts that the pain and frustration are workable, and that somehow soon, you get your BFP.

Ups:  Third trimester!  I can't believe how quickly this has all gone by, and how quickly the next three months are going to go!  Our little guy is super busy, and even though he's messing up my sleep with his kicking, its worth it.

Downs:  Heartburn is really miserable.  That and I am starting to become rather limited.  I can't stand up and iron for a whole afternoon or spend a few hours cooking without taking a long break in the middle.

QOTW:  We don't have a will, but we need to do it.  Not looking forward to it as everything is so complicated here.  If something happens, we'll probably have my in-laws take care of our LO, and otherwise, probably my stepmother (she is only 10 years older than me, so she'll be around for a while.)

  • I cannot believe I am 2nd from the top now! Crazy!

    1) How's your week going? Ups? Downs?

Ups: I'm getting close to actually being done with being pregnant and having a little baby instead!  MiniBini is really active these days, which is overall a good thing.  At this point I have not gained any weight at all, and I'm cool with that since LO is growing right on track.

Downs: Everything else, lol.  It still seems really, really far away.  My back kills all the time.  I get bad heartburn.  I can't sleep because of my back and because I'm getting up to pee every 5 minutes (I exaggerate only slightly). I'm nowhere near ready to leave for maternity leave--I have a lot of lesson planning and other things to prepare and I haven't even started yet.  And I live on the 3rd floor and STAIRS SUCK!  Also, I barely fit behind the wheel of my car anymore so it's a good thing DH has his license now.

    2)  QOTW: Do you have a will?  How did you decide who will care for your child(ren) in the event that both of their parents die?

We don't have one, and other than the baby we don't have anything that needs to be "distributed" or taken care of after we are gone.  I've tried to talk to DH about choosing a guardian officially for the baby and he won't discuss it; he thinks it's bad luck to talk about it!  Gah!  I finally said "How about my parents?" and he said "Fine, now let's talk about something else." So I guess if we die my parents will take care of MiniBini, and I informally asked my mom and she said fine, but we don't have anything official.

  • MrsDRJ - I'm so sorry you're not there yet. I'm sending lots of BFP vibes your way!

Ups: Still feeling good and baby is healthy. He's moving around like crazy!

Downs: Same as Faye. I had a really bad day today made worse by the fact that I'm hormonal and tired. I literally walked out of work today at 3:00 and just came home. I thought I'd had enough.

QOTD: We've talked about it but haven't done it.

    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Ups: we had our NT scan yesterday and everything looks great! I was so relieved to see/hear that heartbeat again. We also got some great pictures and a DVD, the baby actually looks like a baby now. I kept giggling during the scan which was making my belly shake because I was so relieved and then I just thought it was so weird that there was a baby in there when I don't feel anything! So bizarre, but amazing at the same time. Downs: nothing really. QOTD: we do not yet have wills but I am certainly getting them done. It's very important to me to have everything arranged because both of my parents died when I was in HS and obviously their wills were very important to me and my sister. The topic of who will care for the children has certainly come up but we have not made our final decision yet (well I have, I just need DH to agree with me!) Sorry for formatting I'm on the iPad.

  • Ups: M loves school again. He is now friends with his bullies. Tongue Tied I hope he doesn't start picking up bad behaviour. His French is really improving. I'd say he is about 50-50 English - French now.

Downs: H has been talking about having a second kid. I really don't want another one right now. He is really disappointed.

QOTW: We don't have one yet. We are still deciding on who we would want to take care of M. We are leaning towards SIL, but she is single and I'm not sure she would want to raise a kid right now. We thought about my parents, but they are in Canada and we don't think it would be best for M to have to move to a new country after the death of his parents.
